Status: offline 		As a native and current resident of Iowa, I am POSITIVELY OUTRAGED to read the sorts of cheap shots you are taking at my state due to the outcome of the caucuses last night...especially from people who call themselves informed, educated, adult posters!!
If you are pissed at the outcome of last night? Fine! If you are disappointed that "your candidate" didn't qualify? Ok. But to drag my state through the mud because of it? Inane and unfair!

One poster who claims in profile that they are "extremely slow to anger and have an even temper" makes the nastiest comment:
"Extremes of the season combined with the dullness of the landscape drove most Iowans insane a long time ago."
Perhaps that same person should take their own advice? "It's not thoughtful, it's not any kind of real analysis, and it's nowhere near truthful. It's just rubbish."

I wonder how many of you have actually ATTENDED an Iowa caucus? You can't, unless you are a registered voter here. As a matter-of-fact, you wouldn't be allowed in the door. So who are you to say what goes on and why?

Someone mentioned voting slips being put in a bucket? Yes! They are! There are no voting booths at a caucus; this isn't like voting in a presidential election.
And trust me... voting is STRICTLY MONITORED, the caucus is RIGIDLY run, and it's no free-for-all in some cow pasture! Those who caucus are VERY SERIOUS about being there.

Caucuses began in the 1840's as an easy way of voting since people lived so far apart. What makes Iowa so special that they lead the nation in this? Nothing! They simply worked to gain that right. Your state could have gained that right too, if they wanted it bad enough. So don't blame it on Iowa.

As for Iowans being "bat-shit crazy?" No. They are only honest, hard-working people who supply YOU with 88% of the corn that either ends up on your table, makes your life easier through various products you use every day, and supplies you with ethanol to aid in protecting the environment. (Not to mention other things produced here.)

And if you think the seasons have dulled our senses, (LMAO) you ought to see just how frisky a 50 below zero windchill can make a person! And for dull landscape? Ill be glad to take you on a little drive through the hills and valleys of my state, and along the bluffs of the Mississippi River! I guarantee, they will take your breath away!

There is not enough information in it. "ending medicare as we know it" really doesn't mean anything. They may want to get rid of it altogether, they may want to make it bigger and more powerful, they may want to make major changes or minor changes, but any of those things would "end medicare as we know it".

It's really not telling us anything of value which is what is needed to make an informed decision.

The way the voting was handled, they may as well have thrown darts at a board though, as far as I'm concerned. And yes, I did see it (on tv) and it did look like a crazy free for all. (maybe some places are run better than the one I saw, but honestly, you had to wonder how they kept track of anything the way they were going about things)

Status: offline 		Sorry for my initial outburst...at least to a certain degree. But I DO defend my state in most things, as I would hope you would yours as well. (Thank you!)
So with that being said...

I'm very curious. How would you like the voting to be done when voting booths are not offered in caucuses, blushes?

The slips of paper you saw are all secret ballots that are given to the elected chairman/chairwoman, then publicly read while a recorder records them.
There are groups of voters for each candidate who campaign, motions that have to be passed, and all final results are placed in sealed envelopes and delivered by a courier.

I don't know what county was showing a free-for-all on t.v. But the one I attend is STRICTLY run! Once you arrive, you cannot leave until the caucus is over! You are not allowed use of cellphones, and cannot videotape anything. And you cannot harass other people for their choices.

As I said, this isn't a free-for-all in some cow pasture.

Status: offline 		Im afraid I cant find very much to get excited about the caucuses (interesting that the first choice on my spell check thingy was carcases not what I wanted.
I had more interest watching the cluster fubar over at cnn, No one on fox had near as much fun... they really were mizzy faces
At least something good came out of it....
