Sanity -> Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 5:29:51 AM)

More of our taxpayer dollars (debt which will be extorted from from future taxpayers) is going to enrich the Chinese and give them more of our technology

GM deal moves electric car development to China -- a 'shakedown'?

General Motors agreed in Shanghai today to develop an electric vehicle platform with longtime Chinese partner SAIC. It effectively moves GM's future electric vehicle development to China. Unclear is whether this would also lead to assembly of future EVs for the U.S. market in China.

The deal came as the Chinese government is pushing foreign automakers to give Chinese companies EV technology they lack, according to an Associated Press report. U.S. lawmakers have complained that China is "shaking down" GM to get Volt secrets. Electric vehicle development in the U.S. has been developed with extensive U.S. taxpayer funding.

This reminds me of how the Chinese gained so much ballistic missile technology from the Clintons back in the 1990s that theyre currently planning a manned moon mission

Grianghraf -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 5:33:32 AM)

What sort of boob/idiot would buy one of these cars? Highly expensive, prone to well NOT WORK, heavily subsidized, and by the way... where the hell does electricity come from? See, in a liberals mind, it's not at all about being good, it's about FEELING good. Electric cars make them feel good. November 2012: let the healing begin. Flush the white house of that rabble.

mnottertail -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 6:48:26 AM)

Now you have China as a liberal beacon to the world?

Don't you boys think you should look to your own house and sort of straighten up and figure out how to spin your dismal failings before the elections?

Politesub53 -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 8:45:39 AM)

Free marketeers moaning about how the free market works. Nothing new here then.

Moonhead -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 8:49:22 AM)

Nope, though they do seem to be cranking the notch on the hypocrisy up a bit higher every time they start on that one, don't they?

Owner59 -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 8:50:36 AM)

You cons have heard about the "global economy".........right?

If not.....goggle it.

tj444 -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 9:09:10 AM)

umm.. the article says that China's tariffs might violate "world trade rules"... wtf? there are "world trade rules"?

GM just wants to sell cars to that huge market.. nothing new there..

I personally think that whole EV & hybrid vehicle development thing is a big scam and they are all overpriced shite.. "volt secrets" give me a break... US taxpayers helped pay for that shite.. they got scammed too then.. now its China's turn to get scammed.. lol Americans dont seem to want to buy it too badly.. wonder why.. [8|]

In fact, yes.

What I find most alarming is that GM would move to a country with such a burdensome tax rate and massively higher MPG requirements than here.

Hey, it can't be done here, it is a burdensome regulation here, but not china. it is a burdensome tax here, but not china.

How do it know, you scions of the right?   These are your corporate appeasment chickens roosting here.....

oh yeah,.. i am sure China is real scared.. more bureacrats that sit around twiddling their thumbs and getting fat while trying to look like they actually do something..

tj444 -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 9:29:23 AM)

the $19,000/vehicle subsidy that China is handing out doesnt hurt either, of course...

Owner59 -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 9:38:06 AM)

At least he`s unwittingly giving credit to President Obama for saving GM.

There will be a debate this year, soon as Mittens wins the primary, about what life and business would have been like if GM and Chrysler were allowed to fail.

And Mittens and his begrudging, not-enthusiastic <coughs> supporters<snorts> have to defend the ugly failure scenarios and try to make-pretend that it wouldn`t have driven our economy to depression levels.

Be as sarcastic as you like. You asked, and you got the answer.

In fact, disputes do go to the WTO, and are resolved. Here's a recent one between the U.S. and China, in the end resolved in the U.S.'s favor, ultimately with China's verified compliance.

The WTO can impose sanctions. These are not good for business. Working these out benefits both countries and the world economy. Hardly "bureaucrats sitting around twiddling their thumbs." In the old days, we'd just put up mutually high retaliatory tariffs and close off trade, hurting both markets. It's bureaucrats doing their jobs.

Moonhead -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 10:55:49 AM)

Yes, but it's also an international organisation rather than one hosted by a single nation, so it's obviously an unjustified and expensive evil that can't achieve anything and is just out to fuck America over, like the UN...

Doesn't it cost $4,000 to replace the batteries every four years or so?

servantforuse -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 11:49:09 AM)

If China wants this technology I say let them have it. $ 41,000 for a Chevy Volt and you wonder why no is buying them.

servantforuse -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 12:24:08 PM)

This just in: All 8000 Government Motors built Chevy Volts are being recalled. The batteries are starting fires. The cords used to plug them in are also being replaced because they are melting. No one is buying this piece of crap car.

oh wow,.. so thats why i couldnt find that knock off Channel purse i was looking for... yeah,.. we will see how effective that is.. [8|]

People here bitch about the 1% and corps/banksters ruling the US govt.. that is nothing compared to the few of them running the whole world.. that is where its headed, ya know.. I am against a one world order/govt cuz of that, if that means countries cant settle disputes and uphold agreements then I am fine with the alternative of tarrifs, etc..

imo, better a quick deep depression than a friggin 10 year (or longer) long deep recession.. clear out the dead wood fast.. I am not alone in that opinion either..

tazzygirl -> RE: Obama Motors Bowing To China (1/5/2012 1:14:44 PM)

Define... "quick" and who is determining how quick it would have went or how deep? Its my opinion that the effect worldwide would have been harder than the "Great Depression".
