And before we begin, may I say that this thread is neither about pony play, nor that delightful toy, the wooden or Spanish horse! Although of course, as its meant to be ever-so-slightly tongue in cheek, do feel free to add comments on such ! I was walking my dog this afternoon; and on our way home in the car, slowed to allow a couple of slab-thighed women mounted on beautiful horses to cross the road. Now, it isn't just me, is it? Other guys also find the site of a well-jodhpur-ed female astride a horse equally erotic? All that clamping of firm thighs around the horses belly, maybe!! Anyway, I was thinking. A woman riding a horse is like a domme with a man; both are controlling a big, dumb beast.........ahem. So - a question. Do many dommes like to ride, enjoying that similar sense of power they get from dominating a man? Is horseriding a way for vanilla women to experience a similar sense of power and control to a domme; are they in essence 'closet dommes'? Am I over-eroticising a simple coutry pursuit??!!

I always rode because it was more enjoyable than walking to where I had to get. And getting thrown off a horse gives a Domme a sore bottom at the very least (who is in control then?) And what about riding an iron horse there is more vibration on one of those.

I've been riding my whole life and have always loved it. I was going to quip off a smug (imagine that) remark about there being nothing similar in working with horses and my style of relationship with women.........but you know, that would be a lie. I've always had horses that are somewhat difficult. Not a mount for everyone. In fact, the one I ride most now, there are only 3 people I know that I would allow to ride. There are similarities for me, in how I work with horses, dogs, and people. I don't believe in bullying and doing the whole, because I said so, way of relating. I want respect and obedience that I've earned. With discipline being a last resort. As for riding, it's not sexual at all. For me it's an ability to fly. Granted to me because I've created a relationship with the animal. It is exhilarating. If I was into playing with and physically dominating men, I might have a feeling more akin to what I think you are going for.

I have also ridden for most of my life. Most of my career has been with horses and although I was always aware that the farrier found it sexually entertaining when he got us young women to run the horse back and forth for him after it was newly shod, I just thought he was a pervert! It's more like being a good manager. With my mare, we had a bond so great it was like we were one entity. A simple shift of weight or squeeze on the reins and she knew what was needed. Hell, I could lunge that horse without a line or whip. My Park Stallion was squirrely, high strung and like herding a three year old with ADD. The Youth Park Stallion and Youth Western Pleasure gelding that I was paid to ride were like being a passenger in a very well driven car. They were so well trained that I only needed to stay on and look pretty. There was one horse that I rode that showing him was a negotiation in tolerance for both of us. "Let's just get through this, then you can go back into your stall and I can go back to riding someone else." So, you can see it's really not about women wanting to be Dommes.

The last time I was severely thrown headlong, which literally SLAMMED my crotch against the saddle horn! Since that time, my preference has been to stay grounded...well-grounded. Thank you!

I am wondering, La Tigresse, if you also ride bikes. Often. And if you can compare the different mounts. Ability to fly. Exhilarating. Yeah. I even 'have a relationship' with my tin pony. And while I have ridden and can ride horses, I am nowhere near good enough to fly, and exhilarating is not a word I would be tempted by. The big difference I see is that when I am done with the bike I just lock it and walk away. No ritual involved and no real responsibility, unless I have to rinse the mud off, and that is no big deal either. It is just a machine. I do find it interesting when granted opportunity to ride with a nice lady. And I suppose I am not alone in this. But I am not really in a position to make the direct comparison. I grew up around horses, showed Arabians, raised them. There is a "oneness" you experience with the right horse. My last Mare was that way. We could read each other. There was a balance with us that I venture to say a lot of people never experience. When we were in the show ring a simple shift of my leg (she was never what I'd call rein trained) and she knew what I wanted her to do. It was almost like we were one person out there. And we did it all, English and Western Pleasure, Jumping, Driving, Halter, Native Costume, Reining, Cutting, even driving. That bond existed. I can't explain it any better than that. How I ride an "Iron Horse". When I've had a bad day, when things are out of balance with me, I jump on the Harley and at least for a while, I can outrun whatever is bothering me. As with my Mare, it clears my head and soothes my soul.

For ME there is no similarity between riding a piece of metal and riding a horse. As other's have so eloquently put it, there is an almost magically relationship with a horse. They are living, breathing, feeling, creatures. I won't even try and ride Mr Sensitive if I am in a bad mood as I would likely end up on the ground and he would be extremely upset. It would take several calm rides to get him back on track.

Thank you LaTigresse. I appreciate hearing your view. A bike is not a living thing. No mind, no ego, no judgment, no understanding and no plans. But there are many different kinds. Quality. Suitability. Practicality. Capability. Fit. And performance and handling. All these characteristics differ from machine to machine. And things can be done to a machine to make change. When these things are right for the rider, there is a certain magic. I have ridden my Univega Alpina over 6,000 miles. It has let me down only when I wore something out. Chain. Gears. Cables. Brake pads. Shifter. I could not count the number of times it has kept me out of trouble. Or how many times it brought my groceries home. It is not a being, merely a thing, but there is a relationship here. The only other time I felt this in tune with a vehicle was when I owned a '76 Lancia Beta Coupe. http://www.barnfinds.com/fwd-fun-1976-lancia-beta-coupe The coupe on this page is shown four times. Cosmetics aside, the car has a problem. The front struts were rebuilt incorrectly. Easy to do. That is the way it seems you are supposed to do it, until you have. And I did. And then I fixed it. The nose is supposed to be two inches lower. As is, those struts will top out on a bump. Bad news. Properly set up, the car will do everything you tell it exactly when and how you tell it. That is how my bike treats me now. There is a certain oneness. I hope that did not feel too 'off-topic', and invite comments comparing horses and bikes from those who have an opinion.

I love horses, though I haven't ridden in years. Wonderful animals, horses, though they are not the rocket scientists of the animal kingdom by any stretch. Still, they have their own way of understanding the world, and when it comes to working successfully with animals it's about learning THEIR language. Friends of mine keep horses and I live vicariously through them.

Subs ride also. And horses respond incredibly well to handicapped children, getting through to them in a way no human ever can. My daughter's first horse learned to obey her voice commands because she wasn't able to give solid cues consistently otherwise. On bad days, he would do all the work for her. As she began to get well, he would demand she do the work herself always knowing how much she could and couldn't do.

LaTigresse, absolutely Not the same. ;) The only thing in common is the clearing my head and soul. Like I said she and I had a connection. The connection I have with the bike is more mechanical if that makes sense but its not the same type of connection I had with my "Puppet". The ends may be similar but its still not the same. Much as I Love my bike, given a choice, I'd choose the horse. FrostedFlake, you said it best, the bike is a Thing. And you really can be "in tune" with a thing, can't you?

DesFip. I used to show my horses in game shows as well as breed shows. One day while doing a "flag pole run" (where you pull a flag on a stick out of a barrel and run down and drop it in another barrel) I had a flag pole bounce back and hit me in the head. My horse (Puppet) actually stepped under me three different times as I swayed in the saddle reeling from being hit. She kept me in the saddle and kept me from a fall. Can't get that from a bike. :)

The second was going to a ranch and basically sitting on top of a horse that eventually understood he could knock my knees into trees and I wouldn't know how to act!! That is sooo cool that you have/had such a connection with your horse!!

Reminds me of the time Maj did the splits, as much as a horse can, in mid air, to avoid stepping on me. It's been years but I can still remember the expression on his face as he looked down at me, through his front legs, as he was reaching forward to avoid putting a foot on me. If a horse can have a 'What the hell are you doing down there?!?!?' look, he did.

Right, LaTigresse. A horse will take care of you. I was leading a yearling thoroughbred colt named Spring Star through a gate one winters day, thirty years ago. Puddle, frozen solid. Didn't think. On my butt, under the not particularly nice young fella. Startled him, Had he tried to bolt, I would have been wearing him. And he could have been hurt, too. I fucked up. He took care of me. A 'bonding experience' of sorts. And we lived happily ever after, at least, until I got another job next summer.
