tweakabelle, as Keith Olberman said on his show on Friday, Huntsman's sanity, intelligence, charisma and integrity pretty much makes him a democrat. LOL

KO suggested Huntsman switch parties and run in 2016 if he really wants to be president. The way the Republicans are going, they'll never again nominate a sane or intelligent person ever again.

thanks msla. i sort of share your lack of enthusiasm. we haven't been given a lot to work with this time round have we?

romney. he's the most likely candidate, but he too is just a typical politician, and he's been caught lying before, so i have some trust issues with him. he's just a touch too smarmy for my likings, but i could vote for him, though i wouldn't be thrilled about it. romney care sort of bothers me as well, though i need to look into it further.

gingrich. well he's the quintessential professional politician isn't he? and his hypocracy of preaching family values and railing against clinton while cheating on his wife just rubs me the wrong way. i don't expect my leaders to be perfect, but i do expect them to walk the talk they talk, if you get my meaning. he will say and do anything for political advantage, so he can't be trusted at all. him i don't think i could vote for, but i don't think i would vote against him, if he wins it i might just abstain from voting.

santorum. no. not a chance. he is far too crazy on the social issues, if he wins it i'll vote for obama.

perry. same as above, but its his crazy millenial religious views i am afraid of. and i do mean afraid of, i do not want him anywhere near the football, i'm in no particular hurry to be raptured. i will vote for just about anybody rather than him.

paul. i really like him on a personal level. he does live by the philosophy he espouses, and i like his small government stance and record, but some of his other ideas are just too far out for me. he has a very limited understanding of the way the world beyond our shores really works. though i do feel our troops wouldn't be being sent to war lightly under him. i'm not sure if i could vote for him.

huntsman. him i like. he is who i will be supporting, assuming he is still in the race come super tuesday. i haven't found anything about him to dislike, so i'd be interested in knowing just what it is about him that triggers your alarms, so to speak.

so of the remaining active candidates my present ranking is as follows: huntsman, romney, gingrich/paul (i'm undecided between these two at the moment, gingrich i really dislike and distrust, paul i trust, but that's sort of the problem). the other two i cannot support.

I could support any of the Republicans... gawd, maybe even hold My nose and vote for Paul, although I think he's a Kook First Class.

One thing I like about Gingrich is he will take the fight squarely at the left and Dear Leader and won't back down.

One thing I fear about Romney is the McCain complex: being afraid to take on o'distaster because he'd be afraid of being called a racist by some punk on abcnbccbsnprcnnmsnbc. McCain I know all about... I only voted for the guy ONCE and that was in 2008. Never once voted for him for U.S. Senate (I left the choices blank.. no way I'd vote for one of the brain dead loony leftists, and believe me our leftists in Arizona are as bat shit crazy as the ones in california or east coast).

If Romney were to show some fight, I'd go for him.

A host of great young fighters for the conservative cause as potential VP candidates. Marco Rubio being one. Michele Bachman is incredibly qualified for Secretary of the Treasury, for instance.

Yeah, Paul is a bit nutty but he has principles and doesn't seem to be beholden to special interests. And he believes in individual liberties, which have been getting steadily eroded especially under Bush 43 and Obama.

To me, this is a drawback. I want a President who will represent the people and try to pass legislating benefiting them, not engage in partisan squabbles. Not to mention that IMO Gingrich is the most ethically compromised candidate ever seen. FFS, he actually released a version of his first wife filing for divorce which was easily rebutted when CNN had the public records released - he's gotten so used to lying that he never thought how easy it would be to counter.

Also... for me, Reagan epitomized someone whose stances I could argue with, but who was a decent human being at the end of the day. Gingrich is NOT a decent human being. Finding out that he stiffed his first wife and gave her no money for her mortgage, utilities, or cancer meds until forced to do so- he's a self-centered prick.

I have no clue what you mean. I assume you mean being unwilling to address Obama's personal life instead of addressing the issues? If so, that'd be the stupidest thing Romney could do.

1. The election will be won on the issues. If the economy is awful, Obama's toast, especially if Romney's his opponent. If it's good, he's likely right back in.
2. Obama's likable. His personal popularity exceeds support for his policies. Romney OTOH is perceived as robotic.
3. The GOP's got a sizable religious contingent. They'd be far more comfortable with Obama's religion than Romney's. Under no circumstances does Romney want any attention on Mormonism during the campaign.

Please elaborate. I have heard nothing about Bachmann indicating that she's be good in that role. However, since you brought it up, I'd support Romney for it.
