farglebargle -> Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 4:56:20 AM)

Calls him chickenshit in front of the whole Republican Party, and after Newt responds by calling Ron Paul a liar, Paul THEN delivers the coup-d-grace and points out that when he served he was married with 2 kids but he went when he was called.

Newt is then reduced to impotently drooling, "I was ineligable! I was ineligable!".

Yeah, it was fun to watch Newt squirm. Apparently Newt misled us about the details of his deferment. Shocking. So, why WAS he ineligible?

Moonhead -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 8:12:49 AM)

Because they didn't want lying cunts who can't keep it in their pants serving?

Owner59 -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 8:15:36 AM)

Meh.....it wasn`t that bad.

It`s not like anyone`s listening to Paul anyway.

Ron is a good street fighter tho for a small man.

Ron Paul is a few really good ideas wrapped up in an overall picture of insanity.

Newt hasn't figured out that he's been politically dead, even to Republicans, for over a decade.

Not good at the resurrection thing.

"Ineligible" isn't quite the right term.  That sounds like it was something that happened to him.  In fact, Newt did everything he could to avoid service - educational deferments, and I suspect he went into an allegedly nonmonogamous marriage situation where he screwed around on the side, mainly for the purpose of avoiding service.

If character becomes a factor in the primary, Newt's out.

I may have to borrow some of that for a tagline ...

Youve got a point

How could Newt possibly face a highly decorated combat veteran like Obama in the general election after THAT

Obama has pretended he was deferred?

Moonhead -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 12:09:50 PM)

You're forgetting the neocon double standard, Lucy: a war service record is an asset if they're pushing somebody who sold out their country by making propaganda broadcasts for the enemy against somebody who didn't serve, but it's a sign of bad character if they're pushing a draft dodger against a veteran.

Winterapple -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 12:25:29 PM)

FR
Newt used everything he could not to serve.
Married, babies and educational deferments
like Cheney but physical deferments to I believe.
I once read a interview with his stepdad who
was retired military who gave several examples
of Newts physical lackings including poor
eyesight and 'the flattest feet I've ever seen.'
But how terrifying to have been a foxhole
with Newt.
His sobbing would have drowned out the
eneamy approaching.
But, yay for Ron Paul. Bitch slap that fathead
every chance you get. Sometime the confetti
and candy is sure to come spilling out.
And the snakes and the sawdust.

tazzygirl -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 12:26:48 PM)

Clinton did as well, Winter...

Moonhead -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 12:29:48 PM)

Clinton had a Fulbright to Oxford, rather than a deferment, surely?
Handy for a rapist...

Far more than that.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/clintons/felon.asp

Details just how many manipulations and tricks Obama used to get out of that commitment, and others, like ROTC.

All legal, just like Gingrich.

Winterapple -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 12:44:29 PM)

He didn't marry and have a child to draft dodge.
I think he was out of it by the time he
married Hilarey and Chelsea was born after
the conflict.
But, yeah Clinton is a draft dodger. My dad was to.
If I had been a guy and eligible I might
have been to. But Bill, my dad and I
aren't neocon hawks.
I wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with
Bill or Newt but at least Bill's a little
sheepish about his dodging. I think
Newts lack of sheepishness and his
tendency to saber rattle is what Paul
was gleefully pouncing on.

Moonhead -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 12:44:38 PM)

I did really like that election clip for Clinton of the veteran in a wheelchair saying "Clinton made his decision and I made mine. I think he might have been right." (They had it on Newsnight or something back in '92.)
The good grace that man showed was breathtaking, imo.

Of course it is.
If he'd ever put his balls where his mouth is, the hawkishness would be tolerable, rather than the sort of hypocrisy that turns the stomach.

Winterapple -> RE: Ron Paul ends Newt's Candidacy... (1/8/2012 12:53:37 PM)

A lot of Viet Nam vets have shown that grace about
ones who dodged. I have a cousin who was
maimed in that war, suffers today from PTSD,
his whole life has been shadowed by his service.
But he doesn't judge harshly those who
didn't go. My stepdad is retired military and
saves his distaste for what he calls the
weak shitters. Ones who got out legally but
try to rewrite their personal histories as
eager and disappointed they didn't get to go.
