I remember in HS health class, we had the old insurance tables.

3.5% body fat, badly dehydrated because weigh ins were in a few hours and according to the Insurance company tables, I was 2# overweight.

They don't count for someone to have 18" arms and 28" thighs at 5'6 LOL.

For reals.

What makes me crazy is that you almost never see REALLY plus sized people modelling plus sized clothing. You see average sized women modelling the average sized clothing that has been "enlarged" for the plus market.

I ran into a study a while back (I'll have to see if I can find it again) that said one of the plus size fashion stores here in the US did a big marketing study - the shoppers were more inclinded to buy the merchandise when it was shown on the smaller models.  When shown on actual plus sized women they did not have as much of a desire to buy the same merchandise.

They market the way they do for a reason... we live in a world where the size 12 is not considered flattering so the smaller model gives one more hope in fitting the ideal.

tazzygirl -> RE: Anorexic models (1/12/2012 9:50:38 PM)

And then they make that outfit that looks stunning on the size 00 model into a size 12... and well lets just say this...

Just because they make it in your size doesnt mean you should wear it.

Lucylastic -> RE: Anorexic models (1/12/2012 11:47:29 PM)

There are certain styles I wouldnt be caught dead in and some I WANT to wear in the privacy of wherever:) I want to at least have a choice. Im a latex lover and love to see more plus size designs, not just 0 size made to fit. I might as well use a big assed rubber band.
Making it happen is the challenge.
I dont have the design ability, or the know how but i am happy when I find companies that do offer a number of plus sizes.

There are several parts of myself Im not happy with , and would like something designed around those "flaws" to detract or slenderize. Im not asking for a miracle. Im not trying to be skinny, Im trying to feeel as "sexy"l as I can in something Im wearing. I know its more than possible, Ive felt it, but there is such a lack of choice.
But that is just me? I dont think so.
Im almost 50, im fat, Im often sedentary, some may cringe, but Im not giving up my sexual feeelings because I reached a certain age or weight. I dont intend giving up:)

GreedyTop -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 12:04:27 AM)

what kills me is the disparity in sizes even between manufacturors. Looking through my closet (jeans, blouses, dresses) the size tags are anywhere between 5-14.

even going with the s/m/l tags doesn't help anymore.

There have been times I've gone into a store to buy clothing, and even among the same maker/design/SIZE that one pair of jeans, for example, only the pair I tried on and fit the rest of the same maker/design/size DON'T fit.

disgusting.

I found teh first picture FAR more appealing than the the skinny girl in the second picture.

Ash.. I liked your pic. Depending on your height and weight though, I'd be afraid of breaking you! *grins*

tazzygirl -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 12:07:26 AM)

lol Greedy, I got that impression too. Besides, I like meat on my men... counting ribs is just not my kink.

Gimme' a phat bottom girl!

tazzygirl -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 12:11:03 AM)

I have seen the bruises those skinny girls leave behind... careful on the down stroke!

GreedyTop -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 12:12:22 AM)

Tazzy, to be fair, it IS a phone pic. It doesn't give a reasonable scale to compare to. I'm 5'4", 135 lbs. (ok, so that 135 is rather .. fluffy.. at this point LOL). If Ash is 5'9" or taller, and 180-190 or more, then it's not a problem to me. *winks at Ash*

tazzygirl -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 12:17:23 AM)

Oh im not saying he is too skinny to be healthy... not at all, he has nice muscle definition.

GreedyTop -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 12:19:44 AM)

yes. yes, he does.

tj444 -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 12:31:56 AM)

He is a tad too skinny for me, he looks more like a teenager would.. now peons bod/abs are more my style.. a guy doesnt have to be that defined but somewhat defined at least.. i wanna know he has a few muscles to open that darn pickle jar for me... [:D]

I like a defined look on female bodies, not body builder defined but not scrawny weakling like the skinny chick in the pic.. I like my body to look defined also.. for me that is an ideal but I would have to be 120 or 115 to have low enough body fat.. It means doing serious weight lifting and muscle defining exercises.. gawd i have gotten lazy! [:(]

Absolutely Greedy, My daughter is six foot tall and has the same issue.

Its funny I was looking at corset sizing yesterday, one company says if you are a size 40 waist, .. order a 36*for the cinching , modesty panel included etc .
The other company says, If you are a 40 waist, order a 50.
The first thing that went thru my mind was, But I dont wanna order a 50! that just "sounds wrong"
Luckily the second company was much tackier material so I didnt order from them. meh at them.

GreedyTop -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 1:45:45 AM)

I was looking at Ms Marthas corsets the other day. She says to size 2" below your actual waist size. Makes sense to me, if you're looking at lacing for shape.

Lucylastic -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 1:46:39 AM)

MS Marthas is awesome

GreedyTop -> RE: Anorexic models (1/13/2012 1:48:25 AM)

Now see, women are just as bad, I've been getting shit all my life for being too skinny, I'm really pretty muscular it's just stretched out over a lot of skeleton, I'm a middle weight, but I could easily go heavy, I just don't want to carry around all that extra muscle unless I need it, it uses extra oxygen and glycogen, I work in an industry where physical endurance is a factor, those heavy endo-meso's tend to fade out a lot quicker, and at almost 50, I can still turn out a 100m at around 11s.

True but those protruding hipbones can bruise you. Of course, if you grab a handfull of hair and do em doggie, the problem is solved. [8D]
