Ok. But your OP did seem a bit...threatening and "better than".
I know you're usually not like that, so I was taken aback as well.
I'm going to assume there's been an odd phase of the moon that's affected all of us the past several days. [:D][&:]

LaTigresse -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/14/2012 2:26:57 PM)

I've been going for either lack of Vit. D or crash in blood sugar after the holidays.

Or both.

I mean, when's the last time that you went to a munch and when people were introducing themselves, they said their name and added what kind of movies they like or what is their favorite ice cream flavor?

There is a difference though because face to face you are afforded certain clues that aren't available in an online environment. If you meet me at a munch, you'll know right off the bat that I like football and 49er football specifically. I don't have to 'say' it because you'll see it by my attire, the way I have my purse decked out with 9er stuff hanging off of it and so on. I won't need to share that I like to read.. it will be obvious by the book in my hand. You'll see by my ring that I'm married. If it's not covered you'll see that I already belong to someone by my tattoo. If you are very observant, you'll notice the tat of the quill with the drop of ink coming off it behind my ear and could surmise that I'm a writer or at least like to write. These visual clues will give out a lot of information in just the first few moments of meeting.

I'm ok with being the minority opinion on this one.  Certain folks and I will just have to agree to disagree on the matter.

Opinions on both sides or all sides of this issue are equally valid and agreeing to disagree with something are what adults do as a matter of course. We're good in that area.

Now.. about The Pack.. I'm still wearing the cheesehead, doll.

Just saying. [:D]

LadyPact -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/14/2012 2:34:31 PM)

No, I didn't mean for it to come out like that.  When I wrote the original, it was kind of like that one last thing that is just one thing too many.  (You're not the first person to tell Me that I don't sound like Myself lately, blushes.  I'm working on that.)

LaT, that was a pretty damn good educated guess there.  Almost kind of creepy.

LaTigresse -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/14/2012 2:36:18 PM)

I projected and took a wild guess.

I knew that one was coming.   LOL!

I'll definitely give you the points on stuff like wedding rings and such.  Those visual cues are absolutely true when meeting in person.

You might want to get yourself a lottery ticket today because if you are that good with projections, you could be rich tomorrow.

(I hope you take that in the spirit that was intended.  I really do mean it in a good way.  For a wild guess, you hit the bullseye.)

LaTigresse -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/14/2012 2:50:03 PM)

LadyP, you can give me all the shit you want and I will always take it well......or at the very least, tell you to fuck off and then in the next sentence give you some shit back.

I'm sorry to read you are dealing with that crap. It sucks.

LadyPact -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/14/2012 3:02:47 PM)

I was afraid of that not coming across right.  No, I'm **not** giving you shit.  It was kind of freaky that you nailed that right out of the gate.

I think I remember you saying that you don't play the lottery, but dang, if you did, this would be the day to buy a ticket.

LaTigresse -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/14/2012 3:13:48 PM)

I know you weren't.

I can be pretty obtuse but when a person who's communication I pay a lot of attention to, changes pretty dramatically in their communication, I know something is different.

Recently you had posted something about Vitamin D problems. You are spending your first winter in some sort of icy white hell.

We just had food chowing holidays that usually involve a lot of high carb and sugary stuff we don't normally eat. Our regular schedules tend to get thrown off a bit during the holidays which means, if we exercise regularly, that sometimes gets neglected. Then that ends, along with all of the holiday 'joy'.

Put all of the above together and voila'!

outhere69 -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/14/2012 5:44:00 PM)

I had a Vit D of 7 and man, there's no fun involved.  I bet you were coasting on the D you had while living outside, LadyP.

Well being new and snarked on the intro did make me feel somewhat unwelcomed but I listened and changed my profile some on CM after I looked up what a Unicorn is. In the intro I had said that I was new. It's all good but I am glad I found this thread in a reply to someone's intro. It shows that people do care. Thank you LP for starting the thread.

This thread made me go back and try and find what my first post was (back in 2008). I was such a newb that I had a typo in the heading and instead of posting in the inductory thread it was in the general which the mods then moved to off topic.

So now I am on a mission to find others CM peeps first post.

I stay away from Politics and Religion 99% of the time, avoiding intros shouldn't be any harder.
And this is unfortunate, if P&R is something that interests you.

I've been guilty myself of being an obnoxious ass in the past. I've been trying to monitor my sarcastic impulses, and actually contribute some meaningful (IMO) input to some of the discussions on that forum. I've come to view Politics (which, ultimately, I think, is simply the process by which we convince others that our POV/philosophy is more rational, beneficial, and just, than any other, without the use of force) as being too important to be flippant or glib about (it's also my opinion that the populace is, in general, overly impressed with glib, fast-talking "snake-oil salesmen" to the exclusion of thoughtful, practical, well-educated people who are able to formulate sensible positions rather than cable news "soundbites"). The purpose of rhetoric is to persuade, not to insult people, dismiss them or win partisan points.

There are some who cannot grasp this concept on every politics forum I've ever viewed. They are well-represented here on CM, I think, and I also think that their numbers are dwindling, and that the forum is changing for the better. It won't contimue to improve until others become involved (if such discussions are of interest to them) and make it known that those whose "contributions" consist mainly of snark, insults, trolling, going off-topic, and antagonistic partisanship, are not nearly as clever, witty, and brilliant as they think they are, and they have become tiresome.

Apologies for going off-topic a bit from the "introductions" discussion.

Is there a reason my questions aren't being answered?

Did I miss a question that was directed at Me?  If I did, I do apologize.  I did write a comment earlier today that I have missed some posts on this thread.  I've been trying to attend to various matters and I'm falling short.

I think that, although I believe I had the right premise, I went about it the wrong way.  I could have just said that I was going back to being the change that I wanted to see.

Fornica -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/15/2012 5:35:48 AM)

No, it was to the mod. It's moot now.

^^^^^^
What you say, is EXACTLY why I stay out of Politics and Religion, either here, or in RL. People are simply too rigid and rabid in their beliefs, opinions and expressions, extremely close-minded, intolerant of any who differ, and blame folks with differing opinions for all the ills of the world. Blame and attack, that's all most know how to do. Personally, I don't much care for that "Take no prisoners," mentality.

I wish that instead of people insulting, or attacking, others for their beliefs/opinions, they would make serious inquiry with each other as to why and how they came to their conclusions, so we might learn and grow from each other, but apparently most have far too much of their identity invested in their beliefs to ever consider challenging or changing them.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Welcome to Collar Me (1/15/2012 9:16:38 AM)

I am not!
And you're a big ole meanie for saying so!
And I won't change my mind.
So there.
Nyah!

I have watched you play mean girls club in intros, but I'm here to tell you..... no fucking more.

First of all, I haven't read the whole thread. So shoot me.

Second of all, the mean girl's club is just in intros? Really? Sorry, but no. The entire forum's been a mean girls club for as long as I've been here. So many new posters have said so and been reamed for it. I haven't done much to speak out against the issue since back when I was the new poster being reamed for saying so. It was clear to me then, as I imagine it is clear to many new people, the the status quo here is too firmly established, that no person acting alone has the power to change it, and that anyone attempting to do so will be immediately ostracized.

I didn't like things, but I couldn't change them. So I did the next best thing I could think of. I tried to exemplify the kind of posting behavior I wanted to see from others. No doubt I did so imperfectly, but I tried to set an example of thoughtful posting that responded to a topic based on its merit, instead of the witch hunts and popularity contests that I saw all too often. I was mostly ignored, once in a while patted on the head and told that's nice dear, now go sit down.

So what the hell was I supposed to do? If I took a stand, it was clear that I was going down. What's more, I lack the stomach for that kind of fighting. I don't care that it's just the internet, having people respond to me with malice and bile really affects me. On the other hand, when I tried diplomacy I taken for a weakling and mostly dismissed. I've seen the same thing happen to other posters. Many of them, when they'd finally had enough, started threads of their own explaining why they were leaving, only to be met with ridicule for being so "weak". That was the standard response by so many of the "popular" posters, including yourself, over and over again.

You don't like the mean girls club? Then stop contributing to it. Stop turning YOUR head the other way and pretending not to see, and I'm not just talking about the intro forum. Stop deliberately misunderstanding what someone else says to turn it into an opportunity to flame them. Stop acting like you or your friends are some sort of special case.

The standard lines toted around here... "this is the internet, how can you possibly let what happens here affect you, it's not our job to tiptoe around your feelings, there's no rule that says we have to be nice, we can say what we like as long as we stay within TOS, if you get hurt you're just weak, and you should put on your big panties or get out"... why on earth would those statements apply more to some people and less to others, and why are certain people's feelings more deserving of consideration? How many people lined up to defend anniezz338, or to tell her how sorry they were that she was leaving after being bullied?

I think we're all guilty, and obviously I'm not standing on any moral high ground right now. But I'm amazed to hear that you think you are not part of the problem.

pam
