TheKingofHell -> How common would you say the BDSM lifestyle is? (1/13/2012 8:28:07 AM)

I would say that is fairly common given the number of people the that buy BDSM porn(supposedly it's in the millions I figure at least half that is in the life)

Enjoying BDSM porn does not mean you live that way.  It just means you enjoy watching that sort of thing and it might even turn you on.  Maybe it's not as boring as regular porn tends to be.

10%
That's a real stat.

I suspect that aspects of BDSM play are in the nillas bedroom frolicks just not to the extremes that we go or want to go too.

I very very rarely buy BDSM porn---so what about those people who do it not read about it?

Ya - I like there to be non-consent in my erotica but not IRL.

Prevalence of BDSM

BDSM is practiced in all social strata and is common in both heterosexual and homosexual men and women in varied occurrences and intensities.[68][69] The spectrum ranges from couples with no connections to the subculture in their homes, without any awareness of the concept of BDSM, playing "tie-me-up-games", to public scenes on St. Andrew's crosses at large events, for example the Folsom Fairs in several American and European cities. The percentage of women is significantly higher than that of most behavior patterns formally considered to be paraphilias. Estimation on the overall percentage of BDSM related sexual behavior in the general population range from 5 to 25 percent, depending on the scientific objectives.

fucktoyprincess -> RE: How common would you say the BDSM lifestyle is? (1/13/2012 1:56:24 PM)

Kinda depends on how you define BDSM, or lifestyle for that matter. If you mean how many people might enjoy using a blindfold once in a while in the bedroom, we're talking a high percentage. If you mean how many people are 24/7 M/s or Gorean, probably a smaller percentage. As interests and kinks vary so much under the umbrella we call BDSM, I think you will end up with a variable answer to this depending on one's own perception of "BDSM lifestyle". I live in a large city and my sense from trying to meet people who are into the same things I am into is that "my BDSM world" is actually quite small!

Yeah just like tattoos are common these days. What a wonderfull world that would be. All girls with the same landing strip above their asses and all dudes havin a fake fuckin tribal.
Every pornmovie should have an assfuck scene, oh wait that already happened. So everybody likes being fucked up the ass?
The day BDSM becomes common it's no longer BDSM.
Then it becomes like idols where all popstars are fabricated by producers, instead of real musicians playing till their fingers bleed.
Be carefull what you wish for.

RumpusParable -> RE: How common would you say the BDSM lifestyle is? (1/13/2012 3:55:07 PM)

As always, it depends on where you or any study wants to draw the arbitrary line between BDSM and "vanilla".

So far I have never known anyone who, on talking about sex, did not in some way and to some extent indulge in what are considered to be BDSM actions.

FrostedFlake -> RE: How common would you say the BDSM lifestyle is? (1/13/2012 3:56:22 PM)

Yay for bloody fingers!

SexyThoughts -> RE: How common would you say the BDSM lifestyle is? (1/13/2012 4:35:39 PM)

BDSM vs Vanilla is so hard quantify as to make any survey more a perception test, not a lifestyle marker

Mainstream "sexy" vs unusual "kinky" has an evolving, porous border

What's sexy vs kinky these days?

Is it showing appreciation by smacking someone on their fine arse, and getting a blushing smile?
Blindfolding someone before sex?
Melting chocolate onto someones genitals, then licking it off?
Teasing as foreplay?
Tearing off their clothes, throwing them on the bed, holding them down, fucking them, silencing any of their outrage with a long kiss. You know, vanilla romance novel style?
Handcuffing someone naked to a tree and getting the hottest girl at the party to write happy birthday on their body. While everyone watching sings along?
An expat telling a servant to enjoy blowing them, or lose the job that's stopping their family from starving?
A blackmailer getting sex for silence?
A boss squeezing unpaid overtime from a employee?
Wearing latex fetishwear clubbing for how it looks, not what it represents?
Britney Spears wearing a sequined bondage harness on her concert catwalk?

98% of people put down in surveys that they have a sense of humour. Do you think 98% of other people try to make you smile?

I'd put more faith in a novelty handcuffs per capita survey, than asking people if they're kinky or not. :)

slaverachel2Him -> RE: How common would you say the BDSM lifestyle is? (1/13/2012 11:33:15 PM)

Kinsey estimated approximately 12% of the population- depends on what you read 11%-14%. THAT is assuming people didn't lie and say they are vanilla when they aren't due to embarrassment

Porn isn't real. People go to James Bond movies, who don't even try to take over the real world [:D]
