I seriously do not think there is an answer. In fact, I think that trying to stop aggression is what creates the added passive aggression. Women excel at it. Southern women have turned it into an art form.
The phrase 'Bless your heart' and all of it's variations, are a prime example.
The more you try to make people mannerly and civilized, the more passive aggression you will have. It's human behaviour.
I also believe it is up to us as individuals to decide whether or not we want to go there. Either take the easy road of less resistance and do it because we can, or take responsibility for ourselves, regardless of what our friends etc are doing. And, regardless of provocation.
I will readily admit it is something I've struggled with my whole adult life. It was bred into me as a coping mechanism when I was a little girl dealing with other, mean little girls. Most girls don't fly into fist fights, they use words and passive aggressive nastiness instead. My grandmother and great aunt also helped it along by constantly telling me things that ALWAYS started with "A lady doesn't........"
