Status: offline 		Today is the anniversary of the Citizens United SCOTUS decision. The GOP primary battle is dominated by the supposedly independent super PACs that seemingly magically match up their message with that of their chosen candidates.

Are we better off now or was CU a mistake?

We shouldn't have any limits on free speech at all: just absolute and full pubic disclosure.  Which is possible now with the 'net.

Money buys influence so let us go right ahead and be upfront about it....big bucks buy big offices,eh?

Too many people live in the world of "should be, oughta be" not "as it is".

Politics is money.  Period.  Full stop.

To think and wish it otherwise is idealistic and unrealistic.

The question is how do we use that fact and human nature to encourage the type of society and government we wish?

The founders did a pretty good job with checks and balances, but we did away with some of the most important ones.

Full disclosure, available on the net, of all "political" related expenditures and sources of funding would bring what is done in the dark out in the open.

You will never ... I repeat NEVER stop money flowing into politics by law.  All you will do is make the law something to disregard, figure out a way around, and increase the contempt for.

Mistake? Hardly. It was a blatantly political rewriting of the Constitution by "strict constructionists."

I think the only thing worse than CU was getting us involved in all those free trade deals.

Status: offline 		The only part of it that I disagree with is not letting the candidates control the SuperPacs.
I think that might clean up some of the worst of the attack ads. A little. Or not.
But in any case it would be another restriction on free speech removed.
And, where speech is concerned, the rule should certainly be the more the merrier.
Where do you think this is, Canada?
