Yeah, I realized last night I'd forgotten this one. I didn't mean to skip over it, it just kind of got lost in the middle of everything else.

I'm a bit limited in what I can do for excercise right now. A couple of months ago I dropped a 3lb dumbbell on my foot. They say nothing was broken, but it still hurts like hell. Friday was the first day it felt good enough to go out without crutches, and I went out again Saturday, but I think I did too much too soon. It's back to hurting like hell again.
Last year I was walking two miles a day, and while it did help me feel better all around, I still had trouble sleeping. To be fair though, I was also taking naps, so that might have thrown out whatever sleep benefits excercising had.

I didn't see an answer on this...

Certainly couldn't hurt. Where can I get mugwort? I haven't heard of that one before. What is it about those things that helps?

Just a couple of other things real quick then I'm going to raid my stash of tea and take a hot bath.

Frequently I will have night sweats no matter how cool I keep the room. I lived with someone for awhile that kept the window open even in the middle of winter and I would still wake up sweating like a scared horse. My dr doesn't have an answer for me though and it's really annoying. Any ideas on how to deal with that will also be welcome.

I do have a milder form of bi-polar that I'm on meds for, but that doesn't affect my sleep very often. The difference there is that if I'm on an upswing, I don't feel tired at all and I have a lot of energy. Most of the time my problem is being drop dead tired, no energy whatsoever, but not being able to sleep.

One other thing that I know makes me resist going to sleep is that I have the weirdest, craziest dreams, most of the time being so intense and vivid that it feels incredibly real. It gets to the point of being so intense that I don't want to sleep to avoid the dreams. Much too in-depth to go into here, but I'm more than willing to anyone about it that wants to. Just message me on the other side. I have some theories about why I have some of the dreams that I do, and really would like to talk to someone that has experience with the psychological and/or spiritual aspects of dreams.

Try mixing up a small sleep bag made of equal parts of mugwort, lavender and rose petals, and put it under your pillow. I have found it extremely helpful in the disturbing dream department. Might be worth a shot.

Shy...just some random things...are you kind of skinny? Like no matter what you eat?

Um..Do you seem to have random mood swings, like serious agression?

Do you have body spasms? Things like that?

I ask because your night sweats thing reminds me of my room mate.

He has hyperthyroidsim. And some of the things you are mentioning make me think of that.

You may not be skinny right this second, but you may have suddenly lost weight? Or maybe gained weight?

It may be a long shot, but the insomnia, night sweats and bi-polar, if not looked at as a whole, may be a sign of this disorder.

We have actually tried that too, but that hasn't even worked very well. I really and truly do NOT want to disapoint him in any way shape or form, but whatever it is that's keeping me awake isn't cooperating.

I just gave an experimental listen to that, and I'm not going to be able to do it. I hate to admit it but I'm actually afraid of thunder, even if it's a recording.

I actually wish it was Lithium, because then it would be easier to address, but I've been tested several times and everything's always come back normal. I thought for awhile that there might some other hormonal stuff going on, but that wasn't even very conclusive. my body frustrates the hell out of me sometimes because I have so many things going on but with no apparent cause, and as far as doctors are concerned, if there's no "proof" of something happening, it doesn't exist.

Lilbear, the herbs can be harvested from the wild, or from herb shops.

Mugwort has some interesting properties; while for some it can enhance and amplify dreams, it is also beneficial in warding off negative energies, entities/spirits, wild beasts, weariness. You'll have to try it to see how it works, or doesn't work, for you.

Lavender is calming, sedating, relaxing.

Rose petals are relaxing, warming.

Check this url out for other herbal suggestions:

You may also want to consider working with someone who is skilled in recognizing and detaching from you any possible negative energies/spirits that may have hooked into you, as they can be very effective in disrupting one's day and night life.

I'll see if I can find the Passion 4 Life. I've already been working on eliminating simple carbs for other reasons, and I really don't eat any of the white stuff that often anymore. It doesn't seem to have helped with the sleep though.

I had insomnia for about two years. The kind where I fall asleep and then wake up at 3am and can't back to sleep. Two things changed that:

1) I started taking a liquid vitamin called Passion 4 Life.

2) I reduced the consumption of simple carbs. Pretty much, unless it's dairy, I don't eat white stuff.

Now the only reason I wake up is if I have to go to the bathroom.

Thank you Duskypearls, I do know some people that could do that.

Lavender grows all over the place here so it'll be easy to get some, and the rose petals won't be hard either. We have a shop here that I'm going to go visit today where I should be able to get the mugwort and everything else that's been suggested. I just need to find out where they moved to lol.

OK, I think I caught up with everybody lol. Last night I had a nice mug of Sleepytime tea, and found this http://naturesoundsfor.me/. I put my heaphones on, curled up in bed, and finally went to sleep about 2 hours later lol. I did sleep fairly decently though. I set the nature sounds to a creek, with crickets, frogs and rain. It helped quite a lot to help me get back to sleep when I did wake up during the night. I'm going to go into town today and see what I can do about getting some of the things that's been recommended. Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I will definately be giving some things a try.

Everyone has mentioned very good points. I think making sure there isn't an underlying medical cause for your insomnia is important. And never underestimate the significance of good sleep hygiene.

Also, try to limit caffeine after midday and try not to use any electronics 1-2 hours before you are ready to sleep. There is a lot of research out there that points towards internet use in particular late at night being very overstimulating.

Just remember, Lilbear, the Mugwort may or may not amplify your dreams, which already sound as tho' they disturb you, but, they are renowned for helping you to better understand them, so it just might help to give you a handle on them.

From what you've shared, I've a sneaky suspicion you do a lot of out-of-body astral traveling when you sleep, and it's likely you've some boogity oggity entities attached to you that seriously need to be detached. Mugwort may be helpful in the protection department.

If fact, it wouldn't hurt to "smudge" yourself with burning Mugwort and/or White Sage daily, especially before hitting the sack. It also wouldn't hurt to call in protection before you go down at night.

I'll look for it later. The only thing about listening to that is that I use my headphones. I prefer that over my regular speakers because when the heater or bathroom fan clicks it drowns out everything else. The problematic part is his whispering. A man whispering in my ear does things to me that are NOT conducive to falling asleep lol.

I think I missed responding to you Greedy, my apologies. I did remember to get a bottle of sandalwood essential oil today. I love sandalwood anyway, and if it'll help me sleep, even better!

Any excuse to drink cocoa is an absolutely marvelous idea lol.

I forgot about that tongue twister of a flowring herb you suggested, but i'll write it down for when I go back to the health food store.

I do rock myself when I'm going to sleep, and that does tend to help. I haven't done it sitting up though.
quote:

ORIGINAL: GreedyTop

Mom sent me some stuff.

Among them, suggestions to help you sleep.

1.) Sandalwood's aroma eases worry and reduces insomnia. It contains santalol, a molecule in the essential oil with proven sedative powers. Apply 2 drops of essential oil to your wrist before bed. It will be absorbed into your bloodstream and travel to your nervous system, easing anxiety within minutes.

2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CySNhHVAokQ

3.) 8-12oz mug of hot cocoa each evening (it revs up the brains serotonin output for about 7 hrs).

4.) Shankhpushpi ( a flowering herb from Aisa) (available in healthfood stores, amazon.com, or herbspro.com)

5.) Rock yourself. Either in a rocking chair, or by sitting on the floor with bent knees. Wrap your arms tightly around your knees and gently rock back and forth.

6.) As you lie in bed, inhale through your nose while touching your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Then exhale through your mouth, letting your tongue drop back down. Repeat for 2-3 mins.

EDITED TO ADD A CAVEAT: I have not yet tried any of these (although I did listen with half an ear to the youtube clip). Apparently some British researchers have claimed it's the most relaxing tune, or something. I've put the clippings mom sent away, so can't remember right off hand what it said).

I can personally vouch for Melatonin as Kalikshama recommended. I take it at night about an hour before I want to fall asleep and darned if I'm not fighting to keep my eyes open. It is a natural substance produced in our bodies that works within the sleep cycle. I honestly didn't ever think it would work for some reason, and I tried it, and I have to say it works like a charm. Try it.

Awesome! It put me to sleep last night! How awesome is it to have something natural to our bodies that works? It never gives me any kind of a sleepy feeling in the morning. It's supposed to enhance the restful quality of our sleep, which I'd say it does, then when it starts to wear off naturally you wake up with no sleepy feeling at all. I'm a tough customer in many ways and as I said I didn't expect to actually feel the difference of taking this. My college aged kids have been taking it for a while too so they're fresh in the morning for school.
