I live in South Florida, where toe cleavage is much more common than covered toes... nearly all year. I love open-toed shoes, and sandals with a heel. Besides, it's a good excuse to get regular pedicures. I don't think that open-toed shoes, or the popular high-heeled flip-flops cause much of a health risk, unless you are in the habit of trudging through big puddles of standing water, and/or have a lot of open-wounds on your feet (icky thought). I'm sure there is much more danger in getting a sprained ankle from walking on any higher heels, than getting sick from open-access shoes. Ouch.... needles between toes <cringes in a good way>
