That would be nice, but as long as the states have control, I am not sure it will happen. Of course I understand why Obama would leave it up to them. They did such a stand up job when they were in charge of civil rights.

It really sucks because they're both such nice people and have been in love for so long. It's just fucking morally wrong to not let them (or any other couple in love) marry.

Is bigotry and homophobia an exclusive Democratic sort of thing?
That depends on who you ask. There are several posters on cm who seem to think it is exclusively a republican sort of thing. My guess is that is why he posted that.

Reading your post just might leave someone with that impression
My guess is you know better than that, but I have been wrong before....

Well then you and dick can give us some examples of bigotry in the democratic party...... to prove it isn`t lopsided.

dick has "plenty" of examples....

O59. Bigotry and homophbia knows no party. It's still wrong.

The tone and politeness troll is starting to lie as poorly as the debate champ......

Both fails.....

And we weren`t talking about board members,we were talking about the parties.

Not sure where I said that bigotry wasn`t universal.

I just post,as the incidences presented themselves in the news/history and mentioned them here and somehow the cons seem to feel put upon?.....awww.

This is why I welcomed some examples........ openly and honestly,of bigotry in the democratic party.

They can still give us some......seeing as there are so many.

Am I a fucking troll now? Ex FUCKINGSCUUUUUUUUUUUUSE Me. OK. I'll show you a fucking example of bigotry from those who are left of center.

Hardcore Protestants. Snake handlers. Pentecostals that speak in tongues. They're marginalized and seen as halfwits who shouldn't be allowed to vote.
(I'm not saying I dont think some of em are dumbasses but you asked for an example)
This is a big country with a lot of people in it and all of them get to vote once they have reached the proper age without felony convictions.

the debate champ......

<brief detour of response>
I believe those sorts of references have made the new no-no list, Owner59. I was never a debate champ, and would appreciate not seeing you make such a reference again. I never liked formal debate much at all.

I was however a champion in a couple of individual events, and an ADS God, back in the day.

As Hill referenced, the attitude of many liberals towards people of faith, perhaps Mitt Romney's faith for example, is the most glaring at the moment.

That homophobes and bigots from the Democrat side played their role in the initial passage of Prop. 8 is established by the fact I already referenced.

I asked for examples of bigotry in the democratic party. And got none.

Not sure if that can be asked any other way.

And we know we both can sight reems of examples of it in the republican party. It`s prectically a party platform.

So it`s put up time.........or...........?

The only anti-Mormon comments I`ve heard in aired have come from republicans and fundies.

Yeah!

There is ABSOLUTELY NO reason why gay people can't be as miserable as every other married couple.

Say that after you've offered a thoughtful and reflective reply to Hillwilliam's post #26.

"None," and "none, that smell funny to you," are two different things.

Now saying that 8 passed on the same ballot that elected Pres. Obama is not saying the same people cast those votes. Hell, I voted against both, and it just wasn't my lucky day. Enough though, enough for a solid clear win, must have voted both for Obama, and to keep homosexuals (the men, as well as those hot lesbians), from full, legal, equality.

I joke that gay marriage is a jobs program for divorce lawyers. I still think that joke has the core of truth needed to be funny, but I have been persuaded that it's an unintended and unavoidable consequence of an important step in civil rights.

People who want to gather together and have a religius/spiritual/orgiastic ceremony of their union are free to do that, and in any combination they like. The question is whether they'll let you register it down at the courthouse, and enjoy the legal benefits. They should.

I hope the courts will see it that way. I think they will. If we are going to overcome the social divide though, we need to look in a lot more places than a Westboro Baptist protest site.

Shouldn`t you answer before demanding others do?Not sure we all agree that the world revolves around just you.

Again,we aren`t talking about individuals and/or forum members but about political parties, tho some can`t seem to tell the difference.

So AGAIN.....some examples.....being they are so "plentiful".

Specifics rather than lazy generalities, pretty please?

No. It didn't. It was a constitutional amendment, Tazzy. Yes meant yes, and no meant no. Google "yes on prop 8," and see where it takes you.

I don't know where you heard it was reversed on the ballot, implying that it might have passed by accident, but you might want to be more careful with that source in the future.

Post #26, Owner59. Hillwilliam responded to you first.

I'll turn the hide off a bit later, and check. There's a decent topic underway.

I don't want to rain on the parade, and I certainly am in favor of marriage for all, but it's real important to understand the ruling.

It DIDN'T say that gay marriage was okay, nor did it say that there is a "right" for gays to marry. It simply said that since gays had the right to marry (before the passage of Prop 8), the referendum process can't be used to deny that right. In other words, for example, if women have the right to vote, you can't create a petition to take that right away from them, since the Constitution specifically says you can't discriminate. This ruling applies only to California, and even if the Supreme Court takes it...which is not a certainty, they would be ruling only upon that principle.

It's a fine point, but that's the way the legal system works. The appeals court specifically said they weren't deciding the real question, mainly because that wasn't the basis for the appeal in the first place. They DID, however, take note that the only basis for Prop 8 in the first place was to deny a right, based upon nothing factual. They specifically said that the state had no over-riding interest to regulate it one way or the other. That will likely be used as logic in some other cases which actually DO deal with the Big Question.

Course my friends have been married so long some of them are hiring PIs just like straight couples

Irregardless that's great news for the folks in California.

Still good news since in Cali the business of DE-legislating by referenda is out of control from what I here. Any idea if this will effect other freedoms and statutes effected by the 'petitioner lawmakers' or whatever you want to call them?
