It is used as decking on ships and boats because it is a natural non-skid surface because the tree sucks up sand as it grows and it is imbeded in the grain of the wood. Only from reading: Like metal, glass can be heated or cooled prior to insertion... good for temperature play.
It is also non-porous, so very easy to clean.

If chicks can chime in, I like glass because it's rigid enough, while also being smooth enough. Silicone and rubbery things create a lot of drag sometimes, that can be annoying and ... well I guess, even MORE uncomfortable. Plus, it can be floppy, and if you're pretty snug like me, it sometimes isn't strong enough to penetrate well without a TTTTOOONNNN of lube, which takes some sensation away. Glass is nice, because it avoids all of those things.

Varnish is difficult to maintain...use tung oil...no pun intended.

I second the easier to clean part - MUCH easier.

I love the feel - a whole lot better.  They slide better - this makes butt plugs much easier, too, btw.  

And they just feel more solid and intense.
