Even the kool-aid drinking faux-conservative Republicans have given up here

We just refuse to sink to your level, history has shown your side is wrong time and time again, but you keep pushing the same failed policies over and over.

There's no point in proving you guys wrong any longer, you just don't comprehend how dismal a failure your platform is.

Oh just wait, the cons on here will defend even the most indefensible. If Obama tried to get a law passed that would extinguish conservatives that were on fire, they would filibuster and burn to death.

That sentiment is echoed in many of today's non-politician conservatives. Both sides to some extent, but a LOT on the right.

Trismagistus -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 12:05:21 AM)

conservatives, liberals, wake up people, the government isn't divided by these lines anymore, it's all profit all the time and anyone who dissents will eventually be dissapeared thanks to NDAA removing our right to Habius Corpus. America is dead and the nameless horror that has replaced it is so money hungry it will destroy us all.

Boring...

What most people don't realize is that Newt has been saying that for years...

All part of his sense of self-importance.

We'll do our talking at the polls in November.

farglebargle -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 9:14:49 AM)

So, who they going to be voting for? One of the two crazy religious nuts who would impose a Theocracy where women can't even use birth control, or the other guy -- who can't be believed because of his proven history of dishonesty?

Shit, with choices like that it's no wonder they've all given up and will be voting for Obama. I mean, who really wants to live in a Theocracy?

Ah. I think I see. So this is your memorial thread for Sanity, then?

slvemike4u -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 9:59:12 AM)

Read Thomas L. Friedman's op ed piece in the Sunday New York Times....it hits on this very theme, and posits that the Republican Party must shed,to a great degree, their more radical element and actually take a "grown-up" stance about conservative view points so as to have an actual debate with the Democratic party.
By doing so they will do the nation as a whole a real big favor....hard to have a two party system, when one party refuses to hold up their end of the deal.
p.s sorry,I'm not so good with links...just look it up....lol.

TheHeretic -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 10:28:18 AM)

Well then, Mike, I'll certainly refer you to those who take any "grown-up" argument of conservatism, and promptly do their level best to frame it as wanting to kill grandma. Say, turning a proposal to sustain Medicare into a "push grandma off the cliff," caricature.

If the OP wanted a reasonable discussion of conservative ideas, there was reasonable discussion in the thread I offered him. He wants a frame for his strawman.

slvemike4u -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 10:36:33 AM)

And all I did was suggest a damm op-ed piece for your reading entertainment and discussion....don't know ,beyond that, what else I can do to make a positive contribution to the process Rich....but I'm trying guy, really trying.
[:D]

TheHeretic -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 10:47:24 AM)

And I read the op-ed piece, Mike, and suggested how you could put his thoughts about the need for grown-up discussion into practice within your own sphere.

The piece also relates nicely to some of the things I was saying on the other thread, about the need to incentivize risk-taking investments, so thanks for that, too.

slvemike4u -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 10:56:08 AM)

Oh shit Rich ,I'm sorry, a little confusion snuck in there,my bad.
I thought your reference to OP was in conjunction with "here".....not with the op-ed,somehow when reading your post I "read" it to mean you were dismissing the piece and moving right back to this thread.....again ,I'm sorry,my mistake.[&o]

slvemike4u -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 11:02:17 AM)

But to discuss his op-ed.....yeah both sides have their radicals, both sides tend to twist the other sides pov into caricatures of what they really are.....but....
Knew there was a but, didn't you....
Your side,or rather the conservative side isn't ,at present, even being true to itself.By that I mean that conservatism isn't actually being represented by the Republican Party as it is now constituted. The religious Right has driven true conservatism to the back of the bus and assumed the wheel.
There is no conversation possible between liberals and the Religious Right, that is a total non starter.
So,in order for productive talks to resume, and in this I totally agree with Friedman....the radical aspects of the Republican oarty must have their voice muted....it is awful easy to portray the Republican throwing Grandma off the cliff when your party meets the left more than half way there by proposing such radical social regression.

There isn't much reason to debate any more.

There are a few, very occasional "left of center" posters who have an open mind, understand the depths of their own reasoning, and are interested in opposing points of view.

But most of you have a couple of simple responses to any point of view that doesn't simply mesh 100% with your view.  The most common is:  "Poopie head!".

The level of political discourse here from the left pretty much rises to the level of kindergarten.  On a good day.

Notice ... no smile icon anywhere in my post.

In all fairness, Firm, you gotta admit there's a few on the right who also favor the preschool debate method as well.

Neither side has a stranglehold on juvenile behavior unfortunately.

farglebargle -> RE: No one to debate any more (2/12/2012 12:07:55 PM)

LOL... The party which wants to deny woman birth control and gives you a choice between one of two difference theocracies and a compulsive liar wants to assume the moral high ground.

Maybe when it's not the party's policy to treat woman as chattel slaves, then they can speak.

Read this. The US is soon to get exactly what it's been asking for. The EU too.
