Anyone else ever notice

Status: offline 		That in the advertisement for the collarme bdsm  movies where the lady is spanking the other lady with her hand and a paddle and a cane, that she's doing it wrong?  She's taking a stiff object (paddle and cane) and slapping directly across both cheeks.  sometimes she only strikes one cheek (with the paddle), which is safe, but using an unyielding object like the cane or paddle across both cheeks causes the shock to travel directly up the spine and also can cause microfractures to the cochlea.  Sciatic nerves anyone?

Just thought it odd that a website devoted to fetishes should advertise with a video showing an unsafe method.

Status: offline 		Excuse me.  Could you tell me where to find out more about this?  I never heard of any dangers in using a cane or a paddle across both cheeks, and we do that often.  I'd like to do more reading about this danger.  I need some facts before we would stop doing it or tell others to stop.

I've been paddled across both sides plenty of times and never had any problems. Cann you provide any links, OP?

Eta: now that I think about it, a friend did have a flare up of sciatic nerve pain after a caning - I can't remember the specifics, but I did witness it. Nothing seemed wrong with the technique used, but she was down for quite a while after that.

Status: offline 		Well I did some googling. The only websites that say anything about it being dangerous are those that are against spanking, child discipline and bdsm but absolutely no sites from actual medical professions.

Status: offline 		If there's sciatic damage being done, then there's been too much impact to the lower spine (L4/5, S1/3). That tends to be more problematic with 'heavy' impact play ('thuddy' toys, like heavy paddles, baseball bats, etc) even on, umm, well-padded bottoms, but even light-weight impact directly on the lower spine can cause swelling that involves the discs, nerves, etc.

I haven't seen the video clip in question, but it's entirely possible to safely strike both butt-cheeks at once, provided that whatever being used doesn't hit or deform the tailbone, sacral or lumbar areas. That said, there's a lot of variation in padding over the spine itself, and in how surface or deep bruises extend for different people. The same cane-mark that gives some only a delightful sting might cause others a crippling hematoma.

When in doubt, it's safer to work one cheek at a time, and impact on the spine itself is quite hazardous.

It is a judgement call to gauge your blows for how maximus the gluteus is.

Trust me, if you clobber the coccyx on someone it may not be an issue of a safe word but eating your implement. <grin>

OP, I've had canes, paddles, a sjambok and an escrima used straight across both cheeks. (Among other impact toys.) I haven't suffered any major issues. But, like Littlewonder, I also have ample padding.

Can't wait for the next time, either - it's freaking awesome!

Status: offline 		I have scoliosis and to me it doesnt matter if i get paddled on one cheek or both,.. it is all bad for my back so paddling (or spanking) of any kind is a hard limit.. paddling/spanking isnt my thing anyway tho

Unfortunately, I cant ever go horseback riding either..

Did you mean microfractures of the cochlea or coccyx?

Durr, I meant coccyx.  Nice catch.  I'd hate to be paddled on the ear lol.

And for those who doubt me about the dangers of using an unyielding paddle or cane across both cheeks, ask DaddyMcSpanks, he actually does instructional classes on spanking and he'll tell you the same thing.  Not that I'd know how you'd reach DaddyMcSpanks, lol, so I guess you'll have to take my word for it.
