A discussion at a demo had me thinking so I did a little search...

It seems that a large percentage of the female submissives that are looking for "the one and only" etc. have pictures posted that remind me of portfolios from parts models. (i.e. hand models, .. only one part of the body is used in advertising)

It seems to me that if one is looking for a total package, you would advertise the whole thing.

Is it self objectification? Is it fear of being outed? Or, a limited perception of what they think is desired?

Not trolling but maybe I can stir up some conversation on this and learn a thing or two.

For me, it's because of my job. I can't show my face on here or I risk losing my career.

So I will use pics of bits of me, but not face pics or any pic that could be used to identify me.

For some, they're playing up what they thinnk is their best feature.

For others it's job-related discretion, or fear of outing, especially in small towns.

For some, they think certain parts are what guys want to see.

Still others are fascinated by their own bits and want to share it with the world.

Or they want to show something like rope ties they've done, or bruises they liked - some female body parts are obvious, but only incidental in a photograph.

Lots of reasons!

For me, it's my job, as well. Most people in my life (even a fair amount at work) know what I prefer in my private life, but it's against policy to be identifiable on a site like this. I'm always happy to share a face picture via cmail, though, and I state that in my profile. (Assuming they're someone from the forums or someone who fits what I'm looking for - not just anybody.)

People are more than their bodies. A photograph of a hand, staged properly, can convey more about a person than a bathroom mirror snapshot. No one shows "the whole thing", no matter how many pictures they upload.

I was once recognized from a picture and harassed for it at work. I...took care of it, but it was jarring. Remember that women who show their faces on a "sexual" site may be taking risks that men do not.

I guess I'm still old fashioned when it comes to the internet.  Way back when the rules we followed were to never give out your real name, your address, your phone number, or your picture until you had known someone for months, if not longer.

Yes, I am crazy about feathered creatures. I have a dozen chickens, 3 ducks, 5 geese, and 2 parakeets.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

For some it's about not wanting to be outed.
For others it's because they don't like the way they look except for that part.
For others it's just simply a picture they like.

I've had full pics when I was single and I had the picture I have up now; the one with just my eye and hair flying because I liked the pic.

I'm going to put my hand in my portfolio pics....but only after I've had some lab work done and can show the cotton ball and paper tape holding it all together so I don't bleed.

Besides the obvious (internet discretion) I'd go with limited perception of what they think is desired.

It could also be 'she' is really a 'he' and women's body part pics are simple to obtain with nary a chance of being busted for stealing them...after all, there's no face to identify.

I think that since so many men look at women as a collection of body parts, many women are happy to provide specific body parts to cater to those men. Also, I think many women (and men) think that since this is a kink site, they need to remove any air of mystery and just post breast/cock/ass shots; you lead with what you think will sell, I suppose.

Body parts are often considered more erotic than gyno shots, it forces you to use your imagination, it heightens the mystery, etc. - there's always porn if you don't know what pussy looks like.

And, it's one thing spreading for the one you love, another thing entirely doing for the whole world, not everybody is into that.

Well, I think when I'm out in the regular course of my existence, I am advertising the whole thing, so to speak, but even then, I'm certainly not walking into bars bare naked (!) and certainly not going to speak every single thing that is on my mind (!) - in other words, do we ever, initially, truly let it "all hang out" - and would we even want to? I think, whether it is the physical, or our personality, or our history, things should be revealed over time, and in stages, as suits the situation, the two people involved, and taking into account that everyone actually likes at least a little bit of mystery at the very beginning.

The Internet certainly is a different venue, where different rules necessarily apply. So I agree with all of those who say that discretion is not a bad thing when you are on the Internet.

I also think tastefully done photos focusing on certain features can be very artistic, flattering, and actually say a lot about someone.

Funny you should mention it.  I felt the same way.  I noticed the parts photos often belong to the especially demanding, bratty "slaves".  The romantic novel type or "do me subs" with a "he is responsible for my submission attitude" that are trying to "hook a husband" in the name of BDSM.  So many profiles seeking their "one and only" but they have Domme style photos of their feet?  WTF is up with that?

And for all those other worthless close ups of forearms, hands, calves, the back of you neck, 1/2 a butt cheek, a micro view of your cleavage that is so close I can't tell if it is an ass - a pair of titties - or some really fat thighs, some random flowers and a fucking picture of your pet...  Jesus, spare me this worthless "eye litter".

I am willing to bet most other Domly types would rather one blank piece of art as a placeholder so you can rank in the "photos only" searches than be plagued by a whole damn photo album of your pets and some petunias.  Have some respect for us Domly types.  Your profile is YOUR ad.  Do you really want us to know you have no respect for our time spent reading your ad?  I feel sorry for any newcomers that don't see all that shit as red flags.

I don't care what color your fingernails are now and I don't need an 8 x 10 glossy closeup of your fingertips.  They will be whatever color I want them to be if you become mine.  Somewhere on CollarMe there is a face shot so blurry you can't tell if it is a man or women.  So the other photo is pussy closeup... so close, only the left labia fit in the frame.  What was the point?

It's not your cat, it's your face, the expressions on your face, your body and your body language that we want to see.  Smiling happy pics of you outside enjoying life so we know you are a happy healthy human.  Unless you're into K-9, the pet photos only serve as warning to us that you come with an unnecessary shit generating, hair shedding dependent.  So lock the cat in the closet and take the macro lens off your camera before you next profile photo session.

Somehow you and that albatross just don't seem like the stereotype I was talking about.  However, as cute as they are, the capybara's look like hairy little poop factories!  ... you know I love ya' and I do know what you look like, we've met (you're such a hotty).  Besides, you only recently took your pics down...  as did I recently take all the text out of my profile.  As soon as I find some cool kitten pictures, I'm gonna' photoshop them so all my new photos show me hugging little kittens.  Then I'll kill the ResidentSadist profile and start my "FluffDom4you" profile so I can cap all those romantisubs seeking their one and onlys.

Isnt that albatross a hoot? Snared it from someone on the FB. And Capys are indeed poop factories, they are RODENTS. Imagine when they're 100 pounds! But they are easy to train. (ARE YOU LISTENING, JJ?)
