The French and the English have argued the jurisdiction of her death. I never been to the UK. I heard they have cams everyhwere.

“No wonder you never see a policeman in London if it takes them eight years to sort a straight forward case out.” I think it is more likely to be some very highly paid barristers that have taken 8 years to sort the case out rather than it being the police and you might not see any policemen in London though you can be sure that plenty of them can see you. There are a lot of cams in city and town centres though none in strictly residential zones apparently there are more than 6000 cams on the London underground network alone, they have no real effect on peoples everyday lives given that people expect to be observed in the streets be people anyway. The cams do help to make the streets far safer.

There would have been a lot more bombings without them. I don't particularly believe in them and find them intrusive. There is also the fact that if you have too many, you can't police them anyway. Headline crimes are just that and hyped up. It's a few years since I worked in the probation service but when all the papers were talking about certain crimes rising, there was never that much evidence of it. It was as if the same old body being pulled out of the morgue and photo taken from a different angle. It seems like the whole world has turned violent when you yourself are victim of a crime but an objective look at the figures and its not the case. The problem is that Britain is following America in locking up people that don't need to be locked up and creating more criminal law. Other European countries have far less criminal law and far less prisoners and that creates the perception of a more peaceful society and people feel more at ease.

“It was real effective against those subway bombing, let me tell you what.” I think it is obvious that having lots of cameras could have done absolutely nothing to stop an attack like that, once people decide to carry out an attack like that unfortunately very little can stop them. Though having said that MI6 have managed to prevent several similar terrorist attacks before they even got of the ground and I am quite sure cctv cams would have played a part in that. Footage of the bombers was extremely helpful to the police in so far as they were able to quickly identify the people who did commit the terrorist outrages which made finding out more about the group of people involved far easier. “Real effective against that knife crime "epidemic" too, are they?” The current knife crime epidemic is just media hype there is no more knife crime now than there ever has been, when it comes to the media you need to learn to look beyond the obvious bullshit.

It's an extinguisher investigation. As for the cams: it's Big Brother is watching YOU. Do you trust Big Brother? You would be safer with Big Brother not watching you, but with you watching Big Brother. All politicians should be watched 24/7.

Scary knives are banned!!!” Just to clarify it is not knifes that are banned it is carrying a concealed weapon on your person that is banned and it has been illegal in Britain for many moons. The reason the law is currently in the news is because parliament is considering extending the maximum prison sentence for the crime from 2 years to 5 years to make it more of a deterrent. “The problem is that Britain is following America in locking up people that don't need to be locked up and creating more criminal law.” People used to be executed here for stealing a few loaves of bread and at one point it was illegal to eat sweet sauces with lamb people needed to have a licence to own a dog or carry a walking stick there is currently far less law than there used to be, more so since they relaxed the laws on cannabis. “All politicians should be watched 24/7.” That is what newspapers are for.

chuckles that I high jacked my post smiles I guess I am ok with the public cams. But- the cams that can see thru walls, no. My generation thought bathrooms were off limits to cams. But some have breached that. If the goverment wants to watch my taking a shtt, so be it.(not) Biggest pleasure of my day lately. grins

Now I used to work in the criminal justice system and I can tell you we lock people up now for things they wouldn't have been locked up for years ago and there is more activities being criminalised. There is now a prison population in the UK of approx 76,000. In 1981, the prison population was approx. 42,000. At the beginning of Blair's government the prison population was 60,000. Serious crime has not gone up at that rate but two right wing fascist prime ministers Thatcher and Blair have created more crimes and lengthed sentences.

Yes, she was lovely and lead a tragic life. Quite a loss to the world due to her death. With that said, I find it a bit curious to think that by now they haven't proven she was murdered. If you really want to murder someone an auto accident is not the most reliable way to do it. While there could be many reasons for someone to want her dead perhaps it was just a terrible accident after all. Or, maybe she wasn't the target and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I seriously doubt that they will come up with more evidence to prove or disprove theories on what happened. I may be wrong and lately I have been... so just take me with a grain of salt.

Gotta disagree with you on this one Gauge old bean. No damn loss what so ever, but she did seem to be more popular with Americans than she ever was over here (Her supporters are very vocal and passionate, but very much the minority). Yes it has dragged on... and on and on.... media hype and legal types making work for themselves to keep the cash rolling in. As you say, if you are going to kill someone there are much more convenient, easier and more sure ways to do so.

Raven, may I ask you opinion on the Queen, Charles and the like? Your post rather surprises me. Please educate me/us as to what the deal is, as to why Diana was viewed as you describe in the UK. Being in the UK, I find your post perplexing. I am not from the UK- I honestly do not know. So I ask you. regards-
