Damn. There is good stuff in this little thread. To the bitch on Fox; what a fucking vicious hag. To the cite from HuffPo; you have to love the way the writer phrased describing the hag's previous scandalous remarks. Oh it will fit right in with the New York Times Handbook of Style guidelines, but it is easily misleading (given the highlighted text, and falling at the very end of the article) suggesting she committed the crime of advocating for the death of our President. The Wiki snip had much clearer verbiage MST: Wow. Those are some nasty numbers. It just makes sense that it happens, whether it's politically correct to say so, or not. We take young people, with young and active libidos, isolate them far from home, in a culture that celebrates fight/work hard - play hard, and then put crap on the English language TV, at the most remote places. You get a lot more drunken orgies going on in the barracks, than outsiders might expect. People who were having a ball at the time are going to wake up with regrets, sometimes, and flat-out very bad things are going to happen, here and there. To get a really clear view of it, they'd need to get the numbers of military wives, and dorm sluts*, who suffered some sexual trauma. Still, what goes on is pretty much always a violation of the UCMJ, and the military does pass out the punishments pretty freely, even for completely consensual episodes. I can't say that I ever heard a story of a gay-rape incident, though. It isn't just that we have lowered the standards, it's which standards we have lowered. Criminals get waivers much more easily than a bright high-school drop-out. We could do a lot better on how we screen at entrance. (* A "dorm slut" is a young woman, not connected to the service, who casually resides in military barracks housing. They have no permanent boyfriend, but drift between rooms and beds within a circle of suckered "friends" and fuckbuddies. Don't blame me, I didn't invent the term, or the phenomenon.)
