"I think they have actually discovered there is a difference between men and women. And the sexual abuse report says that there has been, since 2006, a 64% increase in violent sexual assaults. Now, what did they expect? These people are in close contact, the whole airing of this issue has never been done by Congress, it's strictly been a question of pressure from the feminists." - Liz Trotta

I've read 4 articles now and can't find a breakdown on the gender of the victims - I heard a story on NPR that surprised me because of the high ratio of male victims - IIRC 50% ish.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liz_Trotta#Controversy

On 25 May 2008, Trotta expressed on Fox News an apparent desire that presidential candidate Barack Obama be assassinated prior to the 2008 United States presidential election.[4][5][6] While speaking about Hillary Rodham Clinton's reference[7][8] to Robert F. Kennedy's assassination, Trotta said:
“ ... and now we have what some are reading as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osama. Um, uh, Obama. Well, both, which we could.[9]

Ah, not surprisingly, male victims aren't reporting at the time. The VA has higher statistics because it's well after-the-fact and the way they toss in the sexual trauma questions with a bunch of innocuous health questions.

Rape is rampant in the military

...Mountjoy-Pepka often works with male survivors of MST (Military Sexual Trauma). She stated in a telephone interview that 4 percent of men in the military experience MST. "Most choose not to talk about it until after their discharge from the military, largely because the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in over 60 percent of MST cases is too overwhelming," she said.

Last week, the Pentagon released its "annual report on sexual harassment and violence at the military service academies." At its three academies, the number of reports of sexual assault and harassment has risen a staggering 64 percent from last year.

The report attributes the huge increase to better reporting of incidents due to increased training and education about sexual assault and harassment. Veterans Administration (VA) statistics show that more than 50 percent of the veterans who screen positive for MST are men.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are roughly 22 million male veterans compared to less than 2 million female vets.
In Congressional testimony in the summer of 2008, Lt. Gen. Rochelle, the army chief of personnel, reported the little-known statistic that 12 percent (approximately 260) of the 2,200 reported rapes in the military in 2007 were reported by military male victims.

Due to their sheer numbers in the military, more men (at a rough estimate, one in 20), have experienced MST than women.

Here's an older story, originally reported by Florida Today, looks like in 2003.

Male (and Female) Rape in the Military

...the VA's preliminary findings from its sexual trauma survey of 1.67 million veterans enrolled in 1,300 VA health care facilities across the country.

...While the VA survey counted 22,486 cases of male sexual trauma, it also showed 19,463 cases of female sexual trauma

...The VA's military sexual trauma survey may indicate an even wider problem, system psychologists said. Considering that 18 million of the 24.5 million veterans in the United States have never used the VA's health system, there could be thousands more male sexual trauma cases the survey won't account for, VA psychologists such as St. Petersburg's Crane pointed out.

...Domination the prime motive. Veterans Affairs psychologists who are treating sexually assaulted vets described most male victims as the youngest, lowest-ranking enlistees in the military, and the sexual assaults were carried out to humiliate or demean the victims. Such attacks are not homosexual acts, but efforts to assert power over others, the VA psychologists stressed.

Amazing.

1. The statistic in question is a 64% increase in rape since 2006.  Obviously, something has changed since 2006.  She was so eager to blame feminism that she omitted to look for a factor that changed since 2006.  Dummy.
2. Her basic stance seems to be that women are unfit for combat, and that the only reason they're there is due to political pressure from feminists.  Wacky.
3. She believes that putting men and women together will result in rape.  I wonder how many times she's been raped by male colleagues at Fox News?  If that's not prevalent, maybe she could try to think about a difference between the military and Fox.
4. Brilliant how she complained that the military is wasting money on military rape victims.  Should be good for antagonizing all political camps.
5. The question is, how much of a firestorm this will set off.

Damn. There is good stuff in this little thread.

To the bitch on Fox; what a fucking vicious hag.

To the cite from HuffPo; you have to love the way the writer phrased describing the hag's previous scandalous remarks. Oh it will fit right in with the New York Times Handbook of Style guidelines, but it is easily misleading (given the highlighted text, and falling at the very end of the article) suggesting she committed the crime of advocating for the death of our President. The Wiki snip had much clearer verbiage

MST: Wow. Those are some nasty numbers. It just makes sense that it happens, whether it's politically correct to say so, or not. We take young people, with young and active libidos, isolate them far from home, in a culture that celebrates fight/work hard - play hard, and then put crap on the English language TV, at the most remote places. You get a lot more drunken orgies going on in the barracks, than outsiders might expect. People who were having a ball at the time are going to wake up with regrets, sometimes, and flat-out very bad things are going to happen, here and there. To get a really clear view of it, they'd need to get the numbers of military wives, and dorm sluts*, who suffered some sexual trauma. Still, what goes on is pretty much always a violation of the UCMJ, and the military does pass out the punishments pretty freely, even for completely consensual episodes. I can't say that I ever heard a story of a gay-rape incident, though.

It isn't just that we have lowered the standards, it's which standards we have lowered. Criminals get waivers much more easily than a bright high-school drop-out. We could do a lot better on how we screen at entrance.

(* A "dorm slut" is a young woman, not connected to the service, who casually resides in military barracks housing. They have no permanent boyfriend, but drift between rooms and beds within a circle of suckered "friends" and fuckbuddies. Don't blame me, I didn't invent the term, or the phenomenon.)

How interesting. I guess it really isn't always about the big, mean men picking on the women folk as the femininazis would have everyone believe.

That's kind of a myth. Some criminal activity can be waivered, but nothing serious. And with the recent push to shrink the forces, even minor criminal backgrounds are being turned away.

When I was in, they came in both varieties, military and non-military. But we called them "dorm hos."

Men raping men is/can be just as trumatic as men raping women.

Yeah, first offenders who drew probation or county time, without much concern for what it had been pled down from. No drug dealers though. I'm going from what an Army recruiter told me a few years back, when I tried to steer some misguided young idiots into doing something with themselves, and the ventings of a guy who went through boot the same summer I did, and made it a career. Maybe they'll clean it up with the force reduction.

"Ho's" hadn't really made it into common usage when I was in (or I wasn't on hip enough bases), but it's a more accurate description I think. The ones who were in the service got called something else, depending on whether she'd let you tap her or not. They also had their own rooms and chow cards. I always preferred to just go pick up a TDY wife at Bingo. A lot less lies, lots less drama.

No need for your childish attacks. I know it's just as traumatic. But to hear the femininazis talk, it's always the women who get raped by the big, mean men.

Clearly that's not the case.

My info comes from about 2008 when I learned a minor skin condition is more of a disqualifier than having done drugs. Talk about lame.

This woman's words amount to nothing useful nor good for us as a society. She's hateful, ignorant, old, most likely insane, and without the facts to back up ANYTHING she stated. In less words: She's a conservative Republican. I am willing to bet she would gladly through our military people's lives away on needless violence, rather than having to pay a penny towards pensions or any other retirement benefits. That goes double for anyone with missing limbs! Calling her a 'person' is generous. People like her have nothing good to contribute to our wonderful nation except to serve as an example of what NOT to allow in any sort of political office or power.
