My point was that women are already supposed to be having a pelvic and pap smear every year as part of their "Well Woman Check-up." I have never liked that term.[8\|] But if you want contraception, you have to have your check-up. A pelvic and pap smear sucks more than a transducer for an ultra-sound. Fargle is getting all incensed over vaginal probes, but they happen all the time to women. Vaginal sono's happen for lots of reasons. And yes, the sono machines are improving and they do some really cool pictures anymore. (And I always thought that for safety and health reasons you should have an ultrasound before and after an abortion.)

yeah but you dont have to look at the picture before or after an abortion to be eligible EXCEPT In Virginia, maybe oklahoma. I know multitudes of women, both as "patients" and friends who bypass a smear and pap with alarming regularity. Supposed to and doing so is very very different. I can see the point of having an ultrasound after a procedure(wether or not its an abortion OR any kind of Gynae op) Things are missed that cause problems later. I dont care how sucky they are, and I agree they are worse than a probe, but the reason behind it is to me.. the issue

Just to be totally clear here. Virginia's new law provides that women seeking an abortion in Virginia will be forcibly penetrated for no medical reason. In any other State of the Union, we call that "Rape". quote: Englin offered an amendment to require the pregnant woman’s consent prior to subjecting her to a vaginal penetration ultrasound, but House Republicans rejected the amendment by a vote of 64 to 34. There you go folks. The Republicans are now officially the PRO-RAPE PARTY. Nice going, guys!

Rachel Maddow calls this type of legislation "Really, really, really BIG GOVERNMENT". My question is since it is medically unnecessary, who will end up paying for these vaginal ultrasounds?

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - Oklahoma lawmakers edged closer toward trying to outlaw abortion on Wednesday by approving "personhood" legislation that gives individual rights to an embryo from the moment of conception. The Republican-controlled state Senate voted 34-8 to pass the "Personhood Act" which defines the word person under state law to include unborn children from the moment of conception. The measure now goes to the state House where pro-life Republicans outnumber Democrats by more than a 2-1 margin. Oklahoma's Republican Governor Mary Fallin, who signed every anti-abortion bill sent to her last year, did not issue a reaction to the latest right-to-life measure. "Oklahoma is a conservative pro-life state-we are proud to stand up for what we know is right," Senate Pro Tempore President Brian Bingman, a Republican, said. "This bill is one of many Senate Republicans have advanced which affirms the right to life and I am proud to support it," he added. The Oklahoma legislation cleared the state Senate a day after Republican lawmakers in Virginia's House of Delegates passed a similar personhood measure. Republican senate leaders said the Oklahoma bill is patterned after a similar law in Missouri that was determined to be constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. State Senator Brian Crain, who backed the bill, said it would not hamper access to contraception or prevent stem cell research. But Martha Skeeters, president of the Oklahoma Coalition for Reproductive Justice, said that a state law declaring that life begins at conception could have "dire consequences." The bill offers no exceptions in the case of a pregnancy resulting from rape or incest and could mean some forms of contraception such as the "morning after pill" would be unavailable, she said. Doctors who perform in vitro fertilization procedures also will be unlikely to continue for fear of prosecution, she added.
