I'm sort of having this ongoing debate with this PRICK from down the street who's basically your garden variety all-purpose hater.
Always blaming something or another on blacks, asians, demorcrats, liberals, the kennedys, public television, etc. This month (maybe cause of the Iran thing being in the news a lot this month) it's the Jews. And I normally go right by, ignoring him, which can be difficult to do since he lives in the house behind old Lorraine, the elderly lady down the street the kids kind of look after. Avoiding this guy entirely is impossible because that part of the neighborhood is a culdesac and they all have this open door/yankee commune thing going on (Ya take a commune from the late 60s - ealy 70s, throw out all the hippies and insert people you'd expect to find in a Snow's Clam Chowder Commercial).
So we made our sunday morning pilgrimage to Lorraines, to make sure she's like breathing, has her sunday paper, garbage gets to the curb, etc. And there's old Pete saying "You won't believe this, the whole old testament is a lie and there is a couple books left out .... blah blah blah... and there were guys name nephlim and annonoki that could fly and and may have evolved us into men.... blah blah... blah ... and the jews have been keeping this from us so we'd help em with the Iranians".... And YES I did say "kind of a long term plan don't you think?".
But anyway, this guy kinda pissed me off today because he knows I have lots of friends all over the spectrum and I really think he was trying to light my burners today for some reason. Could be that I laugh at his shit most of the time. And I don't know why he caught me so off guard today.
Anyway, it would be great if someone who's got substantial knowledge about this myth/reality/whatever could point me to reliable discussion of it in english.
I'm headed out but will check back later tonight.
Thanks in advance.

Why?  The guy's got his own take on things and solid evidence and rational arguments won't change his mind.

That said, here is proof that he's correct that there are omissions in the Old Testament: Proof of omission

Enoch and Jubilees are probably the books he's talking about. The Nephilim are the offspring of the sons of God and the daughters of men mentioned in Genesis. The Annunaki, of Sumerian and later Babylonian legend, are quite an interesting bunch. There are various interpretations of the material thus far translated, but one of those is that they genetically upgraded the human race ('in their image').

Nephilim is the hebrew word for the offspring of the sons of god and daughters of man from Genesis 6
quote:

1. When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,
2. The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.
3. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."
4. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

It also is used in Numbers 13 to describe giants
quote:

32. And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.
33. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."

Never heard of annonoki but anunnaki is the name for a group of sumerian deities.

After some googling it appears some conspiracy kooks equate the two as space gods or some such.

The OT is not a lie, but indeed it is far from a complete history, some parts definitely are erroneous and other parts are interpreted incorrectly. You have got to be aware that the animals - for our ancestors and even most people today are animals by my definition - that wrote the OT had a completely different perception on the universe than we do; the OT might as well have been written in incomprehensible Chinese.

Quite.

That statement presumes that said Jews knew about those things and deliberately kept mum about them. Whereas in fact stupidity and ignorance is rife among all populations. Shit will happen, knowledge will be lost.

Didn't ask for a counseling Appt Steven ... but thanks. This guy has a confrontational nature and it's just a very difficult situation to avoid and still befriend an old person who's got nobody.
Truth is that summer before last I almost mopped the culdesac with the guy and only a while after that, if I could send him on a web browser fools errand that actually ebded up somewhere he'd shut the fuck up for a while.
Haven't seen history of the world for a while though. Thanks

That makes sense this guy would gravitate to stuff like "Nazi Chariots Of The Gods" is that was a real title.
About very couple of months this guy gets low on meds or something and shows up at the city council meeting to address some small local issue. And it always ends in "So we round em all up take away their fucking NPR and plant em out on Thatcher's Island to camp or die".  It's the only time of the year local access tv is worth a damned.

Wait, so you mean speaking from the individual's perception, "all men before me" were animals (ie - lesser)?
Is that what you are saying?
He talks about a race of "men" who have actual animal attributes.

quote:

This guy sees the "Iranians" as a "pure race" or something like that and that the rest of the world has always been caught in the middle of their conflict... it's way off the wall shit. And yeah, he basically he indicated some presumption of prophecy.

Fargle... last time this guy wouldn't let up on the single Mom across the street, I almost planked him.... it ain't that kind of dynamic.
If it were I'd just bring him a J beverage when the house lights go down

So you're talking about multiple cultures looking at the same moments in history?

You appear to have a natural antipathy against this person, irrespective of whether he is right or wrong. I suggest that you say this to him the next time you see him: "You may be right or you may be wrong; I do not care which for I am not interested at all in the matter. Let's talk about what interests me instead".

I do not think that would work for it sounds like this gentle.... man... thing.... may be obsessive/paranoid.

My suggestion is to shock his system completely by blowing his mind with a novel concept in a positive aspect.

Or bark like a mad dog and clench deeply into the nape of his neck like some bitch animal. That may work.

Your choice.

Word are simply just that, words.

People are going to do whatever the hell they do with them to justify their own means and it does not matter if it is the bible or science.

Yeah ... you figured it out reason is a fleeting concept with this guy.
But I sorta already have a method for shutting the guy down. What I really wanted was the facts. Though it would be amusing to invite Rule down and watch him followed up the street raving ranting nut following closely behind.

Granting that this fellow sounds like he's been hit with some stuff that's gotten him a bit unhinged, there is at least some interesting background to it.

Anatomically modern humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and not just anatomically modern but with evidence of a capability for symbolic art as well. Yet there is no sign of anything resembling civilization as we know it until some mere thousands of years ago. Moreover, many ancient civilizations have legends telling of how their knowledge and technology was given to them by beings who appeared from the sky or the sea.

Believing that legends might be factual is not the exclusive province of kooks, viz.: Troy. The extraterrestrial hypothesis is a bit strained, of course. But it's not impossible that some as yet unknown civilization may once have existed on the Earth, suffered a catastrophe (of which there are also many legends) that wiped out and inundated all trace of it, and that these legendary beings credited with bringing civilization to our ancestors were its survivors.

If nothing else, it's at least a fertile area for speculation. We have yet to explain a great deal about our past, and seemingly inexplicable artifacts abound.

K.

Isn't there one where he comes upon the burning bush and takes a piss on it trying to put it out, or did I imagine that?
