tazzygirl -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 5:56:37 PM)

Most I think are obvious.. lets try

Your motherboard uses onboard graphics, hence the via chip.

That generation of computer came with the possibility of having future potential for better graphics card however some manufacturers didn't bother to literally solder a AGP or PCI-E graphics port.

It would be best to take the case side off and check to ensure there is a physical port to add additional graphic cards.

Not only that, depending on graphics card you want to put in, may depend on you requiring an upgrade of your powersupply.

Updating the graphic drivers won't do much for speed per say.  I strongly recommend running Aida32 and doing a full hardware report.  Those I can read easily and it should say the port firstly if its AGP, PCI-E etc.

It still comes down to having the physical port to plug in an additional graphics card.

While others are helping you streamline your startup, have you run a cleaning program like CCleaner?

http://maketecheasier.com/auto-clean-windows-vista-by-scheduling-ccleaner/2009/02/02

If you’re not familiar with everyone’s favourite system cleaner, CCleaner, it’s a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. This application does a very nice job at cleaning up after you, assuming that you actually remember to run it. In today’s fast-paced world, many of us don’t have the time or capacity it takes to remember all of the little things that have to get done. System maintenance is no exception.

In this tutorial, I’m going to walk you through setting up CCleaner to automatically run on a schedule in Windows Vista so that you can simply set it and forget it.

yahhoo search protect (2x) and messenger and google can be unchecked AIM can be unchecked,  apple push, what do you use that for, prolly dont need it adobe reader, how many IMs do you use anyway?

windows live, adobe reader........

Findinghappiness -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 6:09:46 PM)

msconfig doesn't help with you upgrading your graphics card.

Seriously, I'd be taking pictures of the inside of the case.

If you want to boost graphics performance, than you need to be getting a replacement graphics card.  Is that what you want?
If so, you need to figure out AGP, or PCI-E  there is BIG difference.
Then speed of said replacement graphics card, and IF the current powersupply can handle said replacement graphics card.

mnottertail -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 6:11:03 PM)

read back, she has barnacles, she said the performance was acceptable when it was new, she doesnt have to shell for a card yet............

mnottertail -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 6:13:04 PM)

I am not a fan of superantispyware, but for the moment........

now do the services tab same place

Findinghappiness -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 6:13:53 PM)

If pending performance of PC was fine when purchased and thus after usage it is diminished after said usage, then a proper tune up would be sufficient, not replacing graphics card.

Limited start up applications help speed the overall pc performance up, but what is the end goal for this?  Do you want general speed boost?

mnottertail -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 6:17:55 PM)

she has a dogshit processor, only a gig of memory and barnacles, a thourough cleaning should get her back to acceptable, the only porn she really looks at is here by mistake.

so cam and solitare playing fairly well.......she has lowered expectations thruput can be achieved, look at her first post, all the disk swap and mem use and whatnot.

wonder how much temp space needs cleaning and how many times software has come off and on without registry cleaning

Thats a big one.  Should I hide microsoft services first?

mnottertail -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 6:21:33 PM)

it should be in the tab services right where you are, we can go in and do these things later, and when you are done with this, you can close it all together, unless you are unchecking those things and applying first

Under the services tab, it will take 4 screen shots.  It has a way to hide all microsoft services there.  Do you want those included?

mnottertail -> RE: PC HELP!!! (2/22/2012 6:28:48 PM)

yep wanna see them all, dont hide ms services and you have mail.
