Do you support the Minute Men?

Kedikat -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 3:06:48 PM)

The guys along the borders? No and yes.
The grass is always greener somewhere, and if they ignore the keep off signs, you need a fence. But the minute men reflect deficiencies of governance in the countries involved. If your country is so bad that people must leave in droves, then you should be making things better. If you have people escaping into your country, you should deal with it better, than to have home brewed situations popping up to try and deal with it. And maybe see if you are in some ways screwing up the other country as well, and stop.
I see some trajic events coming of it.

no i don't

pahunkboy -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 5:06:33 PM)

Yes I do. They are building a fence.

The wander in via the South, but for the North we now will require a passport.

My state has sent some.

I think the are  serving the US well. Terrific volunteers!

Minute men are heros!      God Bless America!  [whats left of it]

feastie -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 5:34:27 PM)

I would prefer that the government had handled this properly long before it became the problem it is now, however...

Since that is not reality, then yes, I approve wholeheartedly of the Minute Men.  What is wrong with Americans standing for America?

Wolf1020 -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 5:36:51 PM)

very much so, if I had the free time and money to live off of for a few months without it causing serious finacial problems I would join up with them.

No.  I prefer mine to last for at least half an hour, or so.

(Someone had to say it.)

michaelGA2 -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:22:50 PM)

Minute Men? is that how long they last...LOL

popeye1250 -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:28:25 PM)

Yes, I do support the Minutemen.
And George Bush should appologise publically for calling them "vigilantes".
If (he) was doing (his) job correctly and put Troops along that border there wouldn't be a need for The Minutemen would there?

Without knowing the political backstory, I have to say, they do: take or advocate the taking of law enforcement into their own hands.

So I suppose they are vigilantes.  Again, I have no idea of the context he said it in.

benji

malakas -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:34:01 PM)

Yes, to the extent they are law-abiding.

There is no evidence that they have violated any laws to date.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:39:34 PM)

Vigilante has nothing to do with them abiding by laws, all it means is taking the law into your own hands.

If someone breaks into my house, and I hunt them down and shoot them, that makes me a vigilante.  What the minutemen are doing is just that - they do not believe the government is doing its job, and so are doing it on their own.  They are vigilantes.

Yours,

benji

MasterRenegade77 -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:44:59 PM)

Yes They are true Patriots...

Wolf1020 -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:46:34 PM)

benji-

When the government wont enforce the law and protect the country someone has to.

If Canada decided to invade the US and the government didn't do anything about it so the people did, then that isn't being a vigilante, and if it is it isn't being so in a negative way.

Same here.  You have those of another country illegally entering the US and the government isn't stopping them.  So the people are doing their job to protect the country since the government wont.  Protecting the country, along with the people removing an oppressive government, is the reason we have the second amendment to our constitution protecting our right to bare arms.

So perhaps in a strict sense yes they are vigilantes in that they take the law into their own hands.  Is that always a bad thing though?  Not when the government wont do so as they are supposed to.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:48:36 PM)

I never said vigilante is a bad thing.  I'm just saying that's what they are.

Yours,

benji

DesertRat -> RE: Do you support the Minute Men? (6/2/2006 6:56:00 PM)

No way. They're just beer-swilling, right wing gun nuts, as far as I'm concerned.

rigggght

I know several, most don't drink period.  You know I don't have a problem with simply not supporting then, I really don't.  But trying to misrepresent them as drunks with guns on the boarder looking to shoot a few Mexicans really, really ticks me off.  Please at least say something intelligent when entering a debate.
