I agree, Tigresse.  It is one thing when I am dealing with my submissive to be called something (Head Puba, Oh Handsome One...you know, all the stuff that befits me), it is another when I am dealing with people that may not know me and have no idea whether I deserve their respect or not and I have no idea whether they deserve mine.  Then, only common courtesy...as taught me by my folks and my teachers at school (yes, for some of you younger ones...at one time, they actually did teach manners in school...it came right after the dinosaur riding lessons)...need be applied.  As for the political correctness portion of the equation...forget it.  I love hot rods, appreciate a fine woman, a good cocktail, and think that, for the most part, that someone should find a way to use Tofu, sprouts, and the great horned owl as paving materials.  In some areas, I am very chauvinistic (I challenge anyone to show me a male dominant who is not, to some extent).  I am me.  For the most part...politically incorrect or not...I seem to suit some people and not others.  Hmmmmmmmmmmm...just like some of the most politically correct.

Thank You for Your insite, Sir.  Well put.

For me it depends on the debate. I sometimes enter into the whole Male/female generalizations myself, and if I remember correctly, I am Dominant. If it is an argument about supremacy or "the way things should be" I am quick to remind people there are always exceptions to their rule. As far as political correctness, I don't see why anyone should bicker over it in general, as the bickering just wastes time.

Well, if O/one keeps in mind that the poster can only see things from their own eyes... it allows for much less fussing about little things.  Thank You for Your point-of-view.

i can see how it would be annoying, acutually.  It certainly is a lot of typing to have to acknowlege everyO/one everywhere in the lifestyle.

Well if you feel the need to say male masters and female submissives then you do risk cutting some people out of the conversation but then again maybe you are only interested in folks with similar roles. I would say going out of ones way to indicate gender takes more time than just saying general words like master, slave, owner, pet, etc, that are not necessarily gendered though they might be understood that way.

However in all honesty how could you speak from anywhere other than your own experiences and preferences? So I tend to just assume that most people are speaking about themselves unless they do something like claim their statements are universals or absolute.

Well, most of the time, i try and say Dominant/submissive...but then i feel like i'm letting the Master/Mistress & slaves out of the mix.  So it's kind of a lose-lose situation at times.  And at times, i slip and specify He and she.  -smiles-  And this from a bisexual.  -snort-

The funny thing is though about my post is that I am biologically female, so one would expect me to use the Femdom/malesub model most often. :P

Ok, by and large, i tend to refer to Dominant/submissive in the Male/female form.  While i certainly know there are many many many wonderful Dommes out there and some wonderful male submissives... i tend to think in those terms because, well...that's the kind of relationship i am in...

But i got to thinking...

Yes, i love the avatar too.  TY for making it.

"Politically correct" does not hold enough meaning for me to respond; it's a catch-phrase of the '90's and IMHO mainly refers to the legal obligation not to offend P/pl in the workplace.  Some miss the good old days; others did not have good old days.

i think P/pl forget chat is supposed to be fun, and the boards are supposed to be an exchange of ideas.  To get offended because S/someone Y/you don't know and will never meet has spoken without or with a cap on Y/your nick is overly-senstive, IMHO.

Gawd, don't these sensitive types have real lives and real problems?
E/everyone type as T/they wish and communicate as best T/they can. Peace out.

3 & a half pages of people going on about their own interpretations of PC expressions of both sexes, male & female ...

M/f, F/m or any combination of poly dynamics is only a fraction of what is out there in this great big world of ours.

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one that would point out if you're gonna practice TRUE PC... you would include all gender descriptions... not just the common two.

I'm glad it was finally brought up being that my partner is transsexual.

OK a few people here have noticed my own reaction to PC idiocy, I am NOT PC, will not be PC and anyone trying to tell me I should be is likely to get somewhat less than polite replys.

If when posting I feel the gender an important point then I will make it clear, if it isn't then I will write without regard to pointless 'protocol'. Anyone who has problems with me doing that.... The little red hand in the left hand corner, press it and the problem goes away!

Now to put my $2 worth in on the C/cap T/thing. Personally I find it bloody awful annoying both to attempt to T/type and hideous to read. I tend to NOT read anything typed in this fashion. It just bugs my sensitive eyeballs. However, to each their own and if a person wishes to type that way then its not my place to tell them otherwise. THEY/they just had better not get grumpy when they realize I have ignored them.

When was that rule established?  I will say now, I have no intention of following it.  Because I don't want you to fall over in your 8" heels, of course.  Not because I am just lazy.  Of course not.

I don't know about political correctness, but to fail to acknowledge someone because of their particular preference in just not polite.  Maybe it flies here, but it would never go over very well in a group where the members meet face-to-face.

Real life is different.  In a group the size of CM, or even the regular posters on CM, there will be many subgroups, which have little to do with each other.  Some do the PC thing, some don't.  Some do 3rd person speak, some don't.  People find their own groups, and can, for the most part, ignore the other people they don't like.

In smaller groups, if you don't like the way someone talks, you either grin and bear, or you find a different one.

Both are similar responses to just not acknowledging someone. Granted, if they say hi, you'll respond (prolly), but not start a conversation.

Yours,

benji

I think that to most people outside this lifestyle, the dom/sub relationship is of itself considered politically incorrect.

This site does not care that much as long as you remain respectful to all Dom's.   That is always a good practice for any of us.

*This* site doesn't even care that much.

Thank goodness.

I believe in politeness for everyone, but no special treatment simply because one is oriented a particular way in their relationship.
