I have read here...at another site...and many piercing sites about this. (as am supposed to have them done next week.)

The only thing I can figure out is...

no one can agree on anything.

Any updates from anyone?

I have had both of my nipples peirced for little over a year, and have performed about 200 of them.

How bad does it hurt?  To be honest the pain really isent that much. If you have ever received one of the dreaded nipple-twisters, you will have suffered more. Get your master to put a clothes-pin on you're nipple and hold it there for about a minute. That is about the equivilent of the pain.

Does it bleed a lot?
Bleeding depends on the person, and how well you take care of the bleeding. Innitionally there is a bit of bleeding. But then again when you jab yourself with a sharp object it is bound too bleed.

Where would i go to get it done? I would go to a trained professional. You need to be vary carful, you don't want just anyone sticking you with a needle. Treat it as you would a medical procedure. You woulden't go to a butcher shop to get plastic surgery would you? totally not. Research the parlors in you're area. And dont be afraid to ask questions. Ask for cridentials. If they can't give them too you quickly, or show a portfoilo get the heck out.

How do i know the place is hygenic etc?  You will automatically get a feel with how hygenic the place is when you walk in. You should make sure that in the shop there are different rooms for the tattoo and peircings so too avoid cross contamination.. To be honest both rooms should look like it would if you went into the doctors office. All surfaces clean, make sure to get a good look at the tables, and where you sit when you get the prodecure done. If they are made of wood, chances are you should turn around and leave, as frequently due to the  porus material you have a higher chance of contamination. Make sure to ask what impliments they use to disinfect they're equiptment. Normally an autoclave is present. Always make sure they dispose of the needles properly, usually placing them in a biohazard box.

Do people have to be licensed to do this? Sadly a lot of the time people just assume sence it looks easy, and so they will try to classify themselves as a trained professional. And truthfully, over most of North America they're is no mandate for licensing in most forms of body modification. Most Peircer/Tattoo artists achieve experience by apprentiships. Normally they can last anywhere from 3-5 years. Make sure you choose someone who has been the proper apprentiship length of time, and let them provide you proof with they're credible references, and portfoilos. I have been in the buisness for about 6 years, and every day I still learn new things.

Is there a registry of piercers?  I reccomend you look in you're local phone book and do some research. Check out you're local shops and use you're head.

I hope this helps atleast a little bit. If  you, or anyone for that matter has any more questions feel free to ask me. And I will do my best to either answer you, or send you the information you need:

I have had my right nipple pierced for 2 months. It hurt bad, but briefly when done. I'm a heavy bleeder, so the worst part of it all, was her fumbling over putting the ball on, because it was slippery with blood. I had a curved barbell put in. I have large breasts, and yes, you can see my piercing through a regular bra and tee-shirt. I usually wear a slightly padded bra and then you can only see the difference when it's really cold.

As for sensitivity, I notice it more when I get perky - either from cold or arrousal. Then it's like a slight pinch and rub. I haven't tried clamping it or anything yet, because I was told to allow 4-6 months of healing before putting undue pressure on it.

Yes, there is some foul smell for awhile. I wash my nipple 4-6 times a day with antibacterial soap and there is still a nasty smell. I finally bought new jewelry, because I couldn't get the smell off my original piercing jewelry. But, I'm told that will stop once it's fully healed. I do wish I had known that could happen though, because it was really embarrassing to have my Dom bring the smell to my attention. (When do you sniff Your nipples?)

Oh yeah, breast-feeding... I was 3 months pregnant when I had the piercing done, and the breast is lactating just fine. :)

Over all IMO, the beauty and sensuality are worth everything it takes.

Had them done a few days ago, (plus my belly button) and there is no odor...

From what I've read, you are only supposed to clean them twice a day for the first two weeks, (no more), and then once a day there after.  Too MUCH cleaning can cause an infection.

I do use sea salt spray or a sea salt water immersion up to 6 times a day though...

If the odor continues, I'd have it looked at, as there may be an internal infection causing it.
