I have downloaded mIrc but I don't know how to find the chat rooms. Please someone send me a message or something to help me. I have trouble going through the website to get into chat.

On the other side, in the list of topics on the left hand side, is one that says Chatrooms.
Also, make sure your Adobe Flash is up to date.

I know. Sometimes I can get on the chatrooms that way but I wanted to use mIrc. I have trouble getting connected when using the chat rooms through the website

To chat using mIRC, you need to click Options, then Servers, click Add, put Collarme in description, then chat.collarme.com in server, 6667 in ports, then put your nick password in the password box, click Select then reconnect to the server. THIS PASSWORD IS NOT THE LONG ONE THAT IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CHAT PAGE WHEN YOU GO IN THROUGH THE SITE BUT THE ONE YOU WILL PICK WHEN YOU REGISTER YOUR NICK AT FIRST ENTRY THROUGH THE SITE.

The only problem is you HAVE to register your nick by entering through the site the first time. If you are having trouble connecting, do an update on your flash player and java programs then try. After you connect you will need to register your nick on the server.

To register a nickname, type /register <password> <email address> and replace <password> and <email address> with the password and email address you choose. You MUST use a valid email. You will receive an email that you will need to click a link to validate to complete registration. Make sure you check your spam folder if you do not see it in regular mail.

If you have any problems making something work when completing these steps go to the #IRCops channel and either I or another op will be happy to help you-whoever is there.

Hmm still having trouble. I guess I'll just keep trying the website. I've looked and everything is updated but I still get Flash policy Problem. If you are the server owner, please read www.lightirc.com/faq.html#security. You need to install a flash policy daemon at chat.darkgrove.com(port 843). Sometimes I can keep hitting refresh and it will work but it seems at night it doesn't want to connect. It could be something on my end though.

Oh goodness.. CM runs an IRC server? Fuck, now I'm never gonna see daylight again!

If I'm understanding correctly, the CM server is configured to use the persons password for server authentication, not for nickname authentication like on DALnet, right? (It sounds like curious has gotten on through the website at least once so has a password already.. she just needs to properly configure mIRC for it..)

No, Im not in the hospital. I am at home recuperating.....they got rid of me 4 days post surgery when normal is 5-8 days after(with 7 being the usual). That might be why I'm having some problems. Now, one might wonder if they let me go because I was in fact doing as well as they said, or if I am indeed the quintessional(sp?) bitch and they wanted me gone. That is a rhetorical question, no need to answer it :)

Text chat is on the irc server chat.collarme.com. The server is configured to use the person's password for both. That is why registration of the nick is needed going through the site before configuring mirc to it. It was not this way in the past, and we had many chatters who were not Collarme members or even knew of the site probably. Because of security upgrades and considerations we are now tying the two together. We do not use traditional NickServ such as Dalnet and some of the others, because this registration is mandatory unlike the others where you can either register your nick or not. (That is one of the reasons). Plus we use different server software(OfficeIRC). If you are familiar with IRC and want to explore our server using clients and are versed enough to use commands instead of clicks, you might want to look at that because some of the commands are executed differently than in other servers.

To the OP: the message you are getting is because your flash player is out of date. Please go to adobe.com and download the latest version, even if you think you have it.

They didnt like the fact that on day 3 I was well enough to bitch to their IT department until they found a way to get CM reachable on the laptop someone had brought me because their network forbid "adult" sites and such.

Well. I don't have trouble during the day but at night I do. I have the updated adobe. It auto updates and I've checked the website and it says its up to date. It could be my internet. I have hughes net and is sometimes a bit stupid.

Will definitely take a look at it all this weekend when I have more time. I am very well versed with IRC, having been an oper on each of the big three at one time or another, as well as some of the smaller ones, and a coder for a couple of server versions. I'm getting pretty excited waiting for the weekend now! IRC has declined a lot in these days of flashchats, instant messengers and web-based forums, but still a lot of fun, imo.. with the right crowd.

And I swear, you better be taking it easy and getting better! With all the bossing and smacking us around, I suspect I'd find no shortage of volunteers willing to come out there and get even by making you rest and take your meds! Speaking of which, where'd that cereal killer in the nurse outfit go? I think I've got a job for her.. ::smiles::

Question though.. Do you know of any java irc clients that would also work?

curoiusvibe: Would you prefer using the web chat or mirc? I'll be happy to try to help over this weekend if you still have issues and I've had a chance to get set up here to feel it out.

Well since my mirc is only good for 30 days i guess i'll stick with the website. Like I said during the day i can get it on no problem but at night it doesn't want to load. It could be something with my interent like alot of people on it and stuff. Even my java is up to date. I've cleaned out cookies caches and the likes.
