I don't think there is a best case scenario for ending the problems with North Korea. I think the least bad outcome would be for China to topple Kim, and let South Korea take the refugee flood.

That recent UN report was a mighty heavy straw.

Ive got to agree on the whole best case/worst case scenario thing. You never know what NK is gonna do next, and even if they're willing to let inspectors in, they could turn around the next min, kick them out and threaten to nuke the US or others all over again. The way I see it is this will get no one anywhere when it comes to diplomacy with NK. And while I would love china to topple Kim, it's unlikely to happen, and things will probably go back to the way they were before this "monumental step forward in diplomacy" with North Korea.

That's old news, Rob, but since the mods dropped the rule about old threads, this seemed like a perfectly good place to bring up North Korea pulling the same old shit.

The media reports do seem to be backing down from the haircut story a bit (see the modifications made to the BBC story I linked to at the bottom of page 2), but it has brought up the reliable looking info (pics posted in hair cutting shops) that there are 18 approved hairstyles for women, and 10 for men in North Korea. They are so generous, they even let older men grow their hair 2 centimeters longer, so they can hide bald patches!

Ain't life grand when the State knows best for everyone, about everything? Who wouldn't want to be a leftist, with such a paradise calling out to us?

I think that tactic has more to do with his domestic image. He's a totalitarian ruler; as such he must always look like a great and powerful leader.
