This one banned Girl Scouts.

About time to revoke its tax-exempt status.

Steven,

No. They have the right to disallow whomever they choose. If you do not want to support their decision, then do not give them any donations. If you would like to support the GSs instead, buy some cookies or send a check to this troop.

When a church sells religion, I'm fine with that. That's its job. When it starts selling politics...

They're banning Scouts due to a mistaken belief. And they're trashing Obama. They're being active political agents. Separation of church and state needs to work both ways.

The Girl Scouts of America has been promoting/supporting socio-political organizations such as Planned Parenthood and GLBT.

Time to revoke its tax-exempt status.

*Sigh*. The article I linked to made it clear that GSA does not support PP. If you'd care to supply a link?

There is no organization I am aware of called LGBT. They have not made monetary contributions to a nonexistent organization. They have accepted a trans girl. Would you consider that to be in violation of their nonprofit status?

Remember - nonprofits are tax exempt due to their business structure as a nonprofit. Churches are tax exempt due to them being religious. Two different cases.

If you are waiting for anyone to post a link clearly stating te the Girl Scouts of Ameicn supports Planned Parenthood -
Have you ever heard the expression "When Hell freezes over"?

Because that's when they will be able to post the link - for none exists.

Unfounded and unsupportable accusations are the Rightist's stock in trade.

I'm an assistant scout master and I can tell you right now this stuff is happening as a result of a mass-mailing to a pretty good catholics and other christians (mostly episcopal) who ended up on some mailing list (And no, nobody knows who yet) that fell into the wrong hands and they've been receiving carefully crafted propaganda.
There are no ties to the Boy Scouts Of America or the Girl Scouts Of America in any way shape of manner to planned parenthood.
And no, it's neither reasonable nor fair that the girl scouts are being pushed from a number of the religious venues that they've maintained a relationship with for in some cases, close to 100 years.
The Boy Scouts of America and I assume the Girl Scouts of America make no effort in ANY way to become involved in anything but the bare essentials of society and government and theological pursuits. And you're remarks concerning planned parenthood are more than unfounded. They're just plain ignorant. Perhaps you should get involved in your society and try to make it a better place rather than pissing all over everything you hear some rumor about lefties legitimate contributors to society for the soul reason that it gives you one more thing to run your mouth about.

That's why I have written and delivered a well thought through appeal as a Catholic and a to MY Bishop, Va's Bishop and the Pontiff in Rome to come forward and discourage St. Timothy's from making a very harmful move. This is the result of some right wing spammer getting a hold of a mailing list with 100s of thousands of Catholic and Episcopal subscribers.
And personally, I think this borders on internet terrorism.
You're 'aware' there is not even an implied connection between Planned Parenthood and the Girl Scouts outside that spam attack and the subsequent rumors flying around as a result, right?
You're 'aware' that catholic and other christian, hebrew, buddhist and I even think islamic religious communities all around the us and the world for that matter have had a time honored and mutually beneficial relationship for in some cases more than 100 years, right?

Hopefully now, you're better informed and will give a little thought what you said.
I understand there aren't any guarantees in life. But I like to keep an open mind that every right of center person isn't avowed to ignorance.

I have been boycotting churches since I was a little kid and told my mother I no longer wanted to go to catechism.. seeing as I learned that God was not a god I wanted to believe in..

Trashing Obama?!? I do believe they are trashing his attempt to force them to provide something they are morally against. HUUUUUGE difference.

Aylee is absolutely correct that each parish can decide to allow or disallow whomever they want. They should also accept whatever fate results from those decisions. I don't agree with the church, but I'm also not in charge of it.

And, they aren't "selling" politics. If the GSA was in league with PP (and I'm not saying it is, so don't jump my ass to provide a stupid link), wouldn't the barring of the GSA from activities on church property coincide with their stance against PP? Btw, that answer is yes.

IMO, the church is being petty and vindictive, even if the GSA was in league with PP (which I'm not saying it is).

Well since the Girl Scouts support LGBT, LLC and it's radical plan to force all the straight people into having gay sex I can see that they should distance themselves from those corrupt brain-washers. It that's not enough then I think the fact that they have gotten in bed with Planned Parenthood because PP saw in them a group of girls that would surely need abortions later thus further their multi-trillion dollar abortion mill that secretly exists.

On a serious note, I think they do have the right to support or not support whichever organizations they choose. I think they are but another example of people acting on nothing but propaganda and I personally think they give Christianity a bad name.

When are the churches going to take a stand against the use of their name, facilities and belief systems to promote hate and disguise bigotry?

Christianity promotes itself as the 'religion of love'. If it tolerates hate-motivated acts in its name, it has abandoned the principles that, according to its own account, makes it what it is. In short it has ceased to behave as a religion and is now something else.

Dark Steven is quite right. If they don't act like religions, why should they enjoy the tax-free status offered to bona fide religions?
