Twenty feet might as well be twenty miles when you're falling all over yourself.

That's not how you do it Moon you have the unsuspecting driver drop you off a few doors from your house tell him you need to go insideto get the money.
Than after you go thru the backyard/s you laugh your ass off while he's knocking on an unliked neighbors door.
Thats what I have heard anyway [8|]

omg, this is such a hilarious image! [:D]

Thieves will be remembered.

Thieves will be found (sooner or later they usually need a cab again).

Thieves will be given proper counseling.

Seriously dude... it is not fucking funny.

No question. There's been a few rapes by Pakistani cabbies in my neck of the woods.
On the other hand, there was also a Pakistani cabbie kicked to death by chavs the other year...

There are bad apples in every group. As long as everyone realizes we have to judge each person and each situation individually, all is well [:D]

No it is not. It is stealing from a hard working person who has rent and bills to pay, groceries to buy, etc.

There's is nothing fucking funny about it at all.

And while I'm being somewhat humorous in my references to counseling, I guarantee you that the "counseled" weren't fucking laughing when we caught up with them.

Marc2b, I completely sympathize with the not being paid for honest work, but this did sound like some prank a young person would do - and let's face it, many of us when we're young do the odd thing like this even though we are not bad people at the core.

slvemike4u please tell me you are not doing such things now. This description struck me as more Animal House than something you would be doing today. Am I wrong?

Most young people go through a slight phase of this in their lives. It is usually very short. And they usually mature out of it once they understand the value of hard work. Again, Marc2b, not advocating this type of behavior.

I know you're not advocating such behavior but I wanted to remind people that what seems like a hoot from one perspective seems very different from another. Truth be told, it wasn't often necessary for us to resort to violence in these situations. We believed in what we called the "Godfather Method." When a person suddenly finds themselves surrounded by ten to twelve people casually holding various blunt instruments... well, let's just say they were suddenly conducive to reason and willing to examine their conscience.

"You feel bad about what you did?"

"Oh yes! That was wrong of me, very wrong."

"You feel shame over what you did?"

"Very ashamed, I feel very ashamed!"

"And you want to apologize?"

"Oh yes! I am so sorry! Please, please, accept my deepest apologies."

"And now you want to fulfill your obligations?"

"Absolutely! Oh very much so!"

"And maybe a little something extra? To make up for what you did?"

"Oh yes! That's only fair after all."

"I'm feeling really good about this now. I think we've come to an understanding with each other."

I get it. I remember when we were very young literally stealing small amounts of candy from the local candy shop (maybe twice or three times). I won't use the euphemistic "shoplifting". There was the stupid thrill of could we get away with it. We certainly could afford to pay for the candy.

And yes, now in my adulthood, as amusing as it was to us at the time, I do understand that we were literally taking money away from a hardworking person.

But something tells me kids everywhere still engage in some of this type of behavior, until they learn better. Chalk it up to part of the maturation process.

Now, the banker in the incident in the original post, while drunk, does not have the excuse of youth on his side to cite youthful transgression [:D]

Sumpin tells me this story is apocryphal anyway.

I call bullshit.
