I thought Klinger went about it in a much more reasonable manner Not trying to make light of the situation,I really don't mean to...but damm as I heard on Face The Nation,how does a US serviceman ,with a loaded weapon walk out of a guarded compound all by his lonesome ? Did not anyone notice this ?

Of far greater significance is the damage this person may have done to the international project in Afghanistan. After the recent furore over burning Korans, it seems that the chances of "winning the hearts and minds" of the Afghani people appear terminally damaged. And do you hold out any hope that the Republican candidates,referred to as warmongers in the above post,will heed those lessons [8\|] Allow me to add hearing one Republican candidate(Gingrich) practically cede the right to decide when America goes to war to a foreign country was truly astounding.How anyone can still consider him Presidential(how anyone ever did is,in and of itself amazing) is astounding.

We "installed" Saddam, and then we ended up having to take him out. We were integral in getting Iran to their current form of Gov't. And now we are leaning towards "fixing" that, too. We aided al Qaeda, bin Laden and the Taliban against Afghanistan and Russia and we ended up having to fight against them. Will Libya bite us in the ass? Shit. It's actually a tribute to the US military that this never happened before (buncha teenagers sent halfway round the world, given weapons, and pushed into a foreign land where they're hated), but the ramifications will be horrible. The Taliban has announced that it will attack in revenge. The best case would be an orderly withdrawal per our own timeframe, arbitrary though it would be. If we withdraw in the teeth of fury, it will look like weakness to the Arab world. Crap.

I doubt the military cares what health problems our soldiers are suffering. My son's best friend was in Afghanistan. He was exposed to something--nobody will say what and even deny the use of chemical weapons by US--when a chemical bomb blew up near him. After 4 weeks in a hospital in Germany, they were going to send him back to Afghanistan. His mother and I and a bunch of other family friends called Congressman Phil English, who managed to get a Congressional order to get him home. That was '07. My son's friend still suffers health problems but the VA refuses to diagnose him and without a diagnosis he can't get full benefits. Sadly, Phil English lost his '08 reelection bid to Kathy Dahlkemper, who, in turn lost to the TPer Mike Kelly. English, though a Republican is sorely missed.
