ORIGINAL: Winterapple FR Well, yeah granted they had the human sacrifice thing but no civilization is perfect.[;)] And it's not like they were a isolated case in the history of humankind for that sort of thing. Pretty much everyone did it at some point in their history. Terminology. It was referred to as execution when Henry VIII and other monarchs did it, but cutting the heart out of a living human was most certainly practiced. At least as practice of ritual, that was all there was to it. In the executions spoken of, the person was hanged, cut down before death, on some occasions had the penis cut off and stuffed in his mouth, gutted and had the intestines grasped at one end and pulled out in front of his eyes, then the heart cut out and held up to his face. And yes, some would actually remain alive and conscious up until a few seconds after their heart removal. Then they were drawn and quartered. Also, the head of the more famous of the executed were displayed on a pole in some public place. I'm sorry for presenting such morbid and heinous practices, but that's history. It's true that having human sacrifice as religious ritual makes it worse in some ways because of the innocence of the victims, but being burned at the stake for professing the wrong religion or refusal to profess the state religion is hardly any better.
