DarkSteven -> So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/15/2012 3:22:01 PM)

I do it just for fun, to my cat. Some of the things I've told him:

I want him to go get a job and pay his way.
We're interviewing other animals to take over his job as my pet.
I order him to cease shedding.

Anyone else?

I tease Jed all the time, though I am cautious, because he is a Sensitive New Age Guy and I don't want to hurt his feelings. So I play "got your tail", mostly. He had a big molt and I was picking up feathers and told him "Gonna build me a birdie!" He was HORRIFIED. So you do have to be careful around the language enabled. Mostly I tell him what a great guy he is, and how he's so adorable.

Except when he beaks me, then he is a miserable shit.

Sometimes I tell my horses that they are going to be Alpo tomorrow if they don't do such and such.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/15/2012 3:45:45 PM)

I used to tell Jed "parrot fricassee!" when he was acting up, but he was unimpressed.

My ex used to tell the kitties that he would make them into slippers if they didn't stop bringing us "presents."

We tease our Pirate Puppeh all the time. We tell him he needs to get a job or that we're going to shave him. (Corgis shed...a LOT.) We also count at him. Seriously. For some reason it drives him nuts if we hold up fingers and count. He goes crazy barking and play growling. Hilarity ensues.

DaddySatyr -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/15/2012 4:05:02 PM)

When I used to ride horses, I used to sing to them:

"Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Horses that lose
are turned into glue."

I think some of them actually understood!

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I have a little yorkie that i inherited from my grandmother. i call him my little D.s puppy as i inadvertantly trained him to present his butt for a spanking. I like to push him away and say nobody wants you, and I spank him. Which he now loves. He will put his head on the ground, and stick his butt up as high as possible towards you until you spank him and push him away. And he keeps coming back for more. Other than that, we trick him when he's being stubborn and we want him to do as he's told.

I have a lab/ridgeback mix and I'll point up into a tree and say "There's a squirrel"

He goes CRAZY. He actually tries to climb a tree if theres a squirrel in it.

Winterapple -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 1:49:03 AM)

We had a dog who ran up trees and could climb
if there sturdy branches for him to get his footing.
Hunting dog in the fiest family. And yes,
we'd tell him to get em' just to watch
him try and barrel up the tree.
With my current pets I attempt guilt
tripping them. I find myself saying
things like, "Do you know how many
dogs and cats would be thrilled to
have this for dinner tonight?.
Has no effect on them.

kitkat105 -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 5:13:38 AM)

I can't lie to them!

I have lengthy conversations with the felines that would make any crazy cat lady proud. With my Ruby (3 year old black tortie Maine Coon) conversations usually are about how she is beautiful she is, how she's my baby and how much I love her. I get big loud purrs and headbutts for them. I also sing songs to her which she enjoys.

My parents 2 yr old Ragdoll Ollie, however, I have "sibling rivalry" with. He's the spoilt 3rd child in the family. I do tease him.

StrayCatCharlie -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 6:09:27 AM)

I used to have a great dog with a wonderful sense of humor. He used to fuck with MY head. Sometimes I would get this weird feeling, look up, and he'd be there, fixedly staring at me, apparently attempting a mind melt to get me to take him for a run. It always worked too. I miss him.

NuevaVida -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 9:03:22 AM)

I keep telling Viktor my cat to bring me my coffee in the morning, but he refuses.

Otherwise, at bed time, I always get him and bring him to bed to snuggle before I fall asleep. He has a little game in that he knows it's time, and he runnnns and hides under the coffee table. As I approach the table he runnnnnnssss and hides under the kitchen table. As I approach the kitchen table he runnnnns and then flops down on the living room floor and rolls over, in surrender. When I'm just too tired for this nightly ritual (seriously, it's every night), I pretend I'm looking for something. I crouch down by the couch and he zooms on over to see what I'm looking for. And then I nab him.

Is that teasing, or being strategic? [:)]

LaTigresse -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 9:12:56 AM)

I don't really tease my furry babies. Not in any sense that could be mean or confusing to them.

But we do have conversations! The horses and I, much like Iamsemisweet and her's. Maj is an old fella now so he gets his way more than he used to, but he is such a stubborn bugger. I remember one time it taking several hours to convince him he really could go through a ditch. I knew why he was afraid of it so I remained very calm, but some of the words I said in my calm voice..... He was a great dressage horse as he has always been very sensitive to my body language. The only time I fooled him was when I was fooling myself.

Mo, mister high energy drama llama horse. He is just way too astute for his own good. He usually knows what I want before I do, much like Maj.

My dogs know so many words and phrases, and they all three pay such close attention to my face and body language it's pretty difficult to fool them. Even when playing fetch, Nala knows which direction to start running by my body. The only time I can fool her is when it's dark out and she cannot see me as easily.

Quig the cat is just not very bright. He is easy to confuse and manipulate.

GreedyTop -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 9:21:14 AM)

LaT... please give Maj and Mo a few carrots, or something, for me. I have always gotten the sense from you that they are most awesome critters! (and ffs, don't tell them I referred to them as critters!! LOL)

Neither of the cats fall for my attempts at teasing. They both look at me like: "what? stooooopid friggin human. STFU and give us food/toys/etc"

Yes, they have me trained.

tj444 -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 9:40:26 AM)

My cat Squeek that i miss so much... I would tell him to "Get the kitty.. get the kitty" and he would tear over to the livingroom window and scratch madly at the glass with his front paws, huffing like crazy, his fur would stand up.. he wanted to get out and chase that kitty... lol It was so funny to watch him turning into the ferocious hunter cat..

He used to fuck with my mind too tho.. he would scratch the furniture, I would scold him.. but he would just keep on scratching at the furniture and give me the "now what are you gonna do about that?" look of his, just daring me to try to stop him... He was mostly a pretty good kitty tho..

LadyXandreia -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 10:48:57 AM)

Every day I promise my dog that I will kill her, usually because she insists on going outside and coming back in about thirty times. Or I tell her that I will beat her if she doesn't stop whining at me. She knows I'm a bullshitter though, and that "fuck you, little dog" means "all right, I'll do what you want if you wait a minute more."

ShaharThorne -> RE: So who lies to/teases their pets? (3/16/2012 11:04:45 AM)

All I have to do is eat steak and the dogs come around, praying that I drop a tidbit or 2.

I never tease Binx, she is too smart for it.
