While I'm aware of the terms 'groovy' and 'far out' their actual popular usage was before my time. I learned them from watching Scooby Doo so much as a kid. This is of course no surprise as Scooby Doo was, in fact, a child of the 60s. You all probably think he was from YOUR childhoods...and he was, but in fact he goes back even further. From "The Straight Dope" website: Scooby originally appeared as a minor character in a late 60s cartoon--supposedly as a contestant in a gameshow. This is according to Hanna-Barbera publicity materials I read some years ago, although to this day I have never seen this cartoon and have no idea what series it is in--and this is coming from a big H&B fan. So this aspect of the dog's origin remains a mystery. so in his own way, Scooby was a hipster. --E

"When you wake up, Pooh," said Piglet, "what's the first thing you say?" "What's for breakfast? What do you say, Piglet?" "I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.
