I agree that I don't like long profiles, but I don't rule them out as people JUST because it's a long post.

They can do it, it doesn't really do anything major to me.

DarkSteven -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/21/2012 7:44:42 AM)

I'm a little confused. Whenever I set out to read a profile, I skim it first. That skim tells me in a few seconds if the profile is worth reading. So the time wasted is trivial. Doesn't everyone skim profiles before reading?

I highly disagree with your high disagreement.

I don't want someone with the attention span and IQ of a gnat who finds reading several paragraphs too much like hard work.
I prefer someone who is able to read and comprehend more than half a dozen words.

My thoughts exactly. If they cannot 'bother' to read what I've written, then I assume they cannot bother to serve ME the way I wish to be served.

Otherwise, I would just get another dog.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/21/2012 9:38:43 AM)

I skim everything that I read, even emails.

Nasty study habit from college, I know.

Any updates from me go to my journal. Profile remains untouched.

Obviously the op can't read or pay attention. Kaliko's profile clearly states she's not searching now, she's focused on herself and not meeting any else yet. How the op interpreted that to mean that she's desperate to find a guy, we will never know.

I was not talking about her

LaTigresse -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/21/2012 12:17:13 PM)

Well Swag dude I have a helpful hint for you. Don't read long profiles.

See problem solved. Easy Peasy.

Swaggerseven: Your premise is flawed in a few places. Firstly, the vast majority of people who actually visit the discussion side of CM seem to prefer longer profiles. An overwhelming majority of folks who have replied to this thread of yours have stated such a preference. Which works for them. This does not make them in any way wrong, as you seem to be trying to imply.

Secondly, you've stated several times that 'most people' this and 'most people' that when what you're really saying is YOUR OWN personal preference. Stating your own preference is fine, but trying to give the impression that you're in the right and everyone who disagrees with you is wrong is not going to go over well with the eclectic collection of ruggedly individual personalities here.

Third, longer profiles WORK for those of us that do prefer them. In my own personal experience, a long profile gives you more of an insight into the person who wrote it. It also gives the reader more potential conversation lead ins. To label people who take the time to write a thoughtful and insightful profile entry as 'desperate' is very small-minded of you. For me, a longer profile is a sign of intelligence, and intelligence is FAR sexier than any slutty pic could ever be.

Short version- Cope with the fact that not everyone thinks the same way you do.

You're full of smug

I am with LaTigresse. Some times people should breathe through both mouth and nose in order to smell the lamentation they spew at others.

CRYPTICLXVI -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/21/2012 12:25:00 PM)

Why does anyone get upset about what anyone puts in their damned profile anyway. Don't want to read it, click to the next one.

Why do people write short profiles, why is everyone on CollarMe a fake, why can't I find a slave, why can't I find a dom, why do people insist I cam, why do you want my visa account, why are people Republicans, why is this a run on sentence, why aren't their more flying monkeys?

I might have a flying slave monkey for you to enjoy. lol

It does seem to be that a lot of people are here to simply bitch about the shortcomings of everyone else around. Why can't we all just get along and be what everyone else wants us to be?

...because some of us are not just about the kink.

We want someone who matches us on many levels, and that takes words.

Also, having a longer profile weeds out those who don't have the attention span or ability to read lots of words. Think of it like throwing chlorine into the shallow end of our personal gene pool.

I highly disagree. People who actually read a whole book on someone's profile is clearly a desperate person.

But then again, I was looking for a kinky guy who had patience, intelligence and a life outside of the bedroom. YMMV.

I'm only giving advice to others . I man with an IQ of 180 would or would not read several paragraphs. You're not weeding out the trash. You just think you are. I guess it's okay if doms want to find a desperate sub. but a long profile won't work on a site like
eharmony, unless you want a desperate clingy man or woman.

I'm truly not meaning to sound brash or hostile, but please do tell us how much success you are having with your profile and how little success we are having. Hmmm???

4 women that I never contacted had emailed me. That's pretty good for a male profile, because men are supposed to be the hunters.

I don't know how well your profile is doing, and frankly I don't care.

I'm weeding out the men who are incompatible with me. They include guys who can't read, guys who aren't patient enough to read more than 6 words, guys who are in it only for the kink, guys who have the IQ of a slug, guys who don't have a similar view of the world as me, guys who don't "get" my sense of humour...and a hundred or so other incompatible types of guy.

I only needed one. I found him. Neither of us was desperate, neither of us is clingy. What we are is extremely compatible.

But hey, just keep doing what you're doing, if it works for you.

How's THAT for simple and to the point?

Mine is doing much better than that, I assure. I'm glad you made a point of saying that you frankly don't care about how mine is doing. I really don't care how yours is doing either, but it shows that none of us really care about what you think of our profile, just as you don't care about ours. And why should you? That's the point.

In regard to your precious advise you feel a need to be handing out; you might want to start paying attention to what the ladies are saying. I learned years ago to listen, pay attention, and learn.

A PERSON with an IQ over 100 would understand why I refrain from doing so.

Of course that would require that person to actually READ the TOS..........and since you appear to have an allergy to reading...
