ORIGINAL: dcnovice The firing may have been perfectly legal; I'm no expert. But that doesn't make it any less boneheaded. Absolutely legal. Had all the fired been women (or men), veterans, members of a specific race or gender or religious group, then it would have been illegal. But employers are permitted to hire or fire for any other reason. I checked out the firm's website. They do defense against foreclosures. They've been around for nine years and have evidently done quite well, what with the unnamed executive who fired all fourteen. I'd estimate there are at least 20 employees there. That's at least $2 million a year revenues. I'm having a hard time thinking of any executive who could do such a thing and not get chewed and/or fired by the firm's founder. I suspect that the "executive" was the founder who declined to be identified by name, and that she's nuts. My guess is that the company got stressed financially (lots of payroll, and the clients are already known to not pay mortgages, so they'd be poor prospects for paying bills), and that she simply fired them when she was having a bad day and suspecting a nefarious plot.
