It didn't take Santorum long to backtrack from this one:

"You win by giving people a choice. You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told supporters in San Antonio. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future."

This could be taken to mean that should Romney get the nomination, people may as well re-elect President Obama.

It didn't take long for a Santorum spokesperson to deny it, saying instead that Obama and Romney are similar, people wouldn't get out and vote if Romney gets the nomination.

Romney responded to this gaffe by saying that any of Republican candidates would be better than Obama.

So, on the one hand, I'm wondering what all the fuss is about--lets just give Obama his second term--he'd be marginally better than Romney according to Santorum's words.
On the other hand, I'm wondering what all the fuss is about--if any of the Republicans would be better than Obama, then what are they (the Republican candidates) fighting over?

Power and ideology (such as it is).

The real gaffe was by Mitts staffer who 1st used the word "Etch A Scetch" to describe his boss.

"John McCain: Romney aide’s Etch a Sketch remark blown out of proportion

By Rosalind S. Helderman

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) on Thursday dismissed a gaffe by a campaign staffer for former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney as “one statement by one aide” that has been blown out of proportion by a titled media.

The former presidential candidate compared treatment of the comment made by Romney aide Eric Fehrnstrom on CNN Wednesday to the response to his own statement during the 2008 race that the fundamentals of our economy are strong.”

It's a good ad.

No specifics, as usual, about the "plan," but way to capitalize!

Every now and then one of the GOP candidates speaks the truth. The problem is that it's so hard to tell when it might happen. Romney said "I don't worry about poor people." It's true. This could be another situation where Santorum spoke the truth. The ultimate problem is that it happens so seldom that none of us expect it.

Santorum didn't waste much time to walk this one back. He made another statement today that he will vote for the Republican candidate whomever it might be. But, I think he told the unvarnished truth with that statement--we will be much off with Obama than with Romney (or Santorum) in the WH.
