I was talking about the national average in may '04. Yes, there were places there it got over 5. Fortunately, I don't live in one of them.

You are correct, the silence from the Conservative side back then was deafening.

I was always curious as to how the price dropped so quickly just before the election as well.

Lower gas prices? That has been thoroughly debunked (in fact it would raise midwest gas prices to the price paid on the coasts)
More jobs? About 1000 Temp jobs, that will be mostly filled with people who are employed in contract work anyway.

It gets us another free giveaway to the oil companies at taxpayer expense.

well,.. as did housing and the rest of the economy, the stock market, etc.. if business have gone out of business then they dont need to buy gas.. if people are unemployed then they dont need to buy gas.. everything went for crap just before the election.. I dont think the drop was anything more than that.. jmo..
