Huzzah, QueenRah. I salute you.

To me breeding is like slavery. Stupidly, it's legal and unfortunately, it's profitable. Perhaps when there is not one single dog or cat left in a shelter...well, never mind...never going to happen because so many humans have their heads up their asses. As a life-long owner of entirely rescue animals, my hat is off to you. Keep up the good work, and don't back down.

My kittehs Yoga, Jazz and Boobi...all rescues...salute you too.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: April Roll Call (4/7/2012 8:04:15 PM)

My Jed was a rescue, who thankfully did make it back to his breeder. What kind of idiot would sell a young bird with a potential 40 year lifespan to an elderly man. (Not his breeder--the doofus twentysomething who took on parrots)

NiceButMeanGirl -> RE: April Roll Call (4/7/2012 8:22:22 PM)

All my pets are rescues, either from a shelter or because they're homeless cast-offs that someone else mistreated and discarded. And they stay with me for their entire lives. [:)]

Fast reply -

As someone who does breed her dogs, I think it's a little unfair to assume that people who breed animals haven't helped put down 'unwanted' animals. If you wish to rail against people who breed animals, please feel free to do so in the politics/religion board or any of the other off topic boards. We have rescued animals, we have taken in animals from people who couldn't/wouldn't keep them any longer. We took back one of our dogs because the family who took him split up and the woman's landlord threw a fit about it so she couldn't keep him and wouldn't give him back to her ex, who had neglected and underfed him significantly. We keep in touch with all of our adopters, and have helped one or two of them through rough spots when they were having trouble with issues beyond their control.

If I stop breeding happy, healthy dogs, that won't stop the backyard breeders and puppy mills - they'll just produce more puppies/kittens. I'm sorry that you can't hear good news about happy, healthy babies without re-living the 'kill days' - but that doesn't mean that I'm a horrible person for allowing my animals to breed.

LaTigresse -> RE: April Roll Call (4/9/2012 8:12:19 AM)

I am quite certain that all people who breed pet animals feel they are one of the best and are doing it 'right'.

The reality is quite different.

I am sorry but I cannot be supportive of what you do, based upon what I've seen on here.

SweetDommes -> RE: April Roll Call (4/9/2012 10:54:35 AM)

I don't expect anyone to support me for breeding the dogs. However it would be nice to not be vilified by people that I normally get along with ... the fact that we have puppies does not make me evil, horrible, or a bad person.

LaTigresse -> RE: April Roll Call (4/9/2012 10:59:56 AM)

My opinion. Anytime you, I, or anyone else puts out there that we do something that others will possibly find offensive in some way, we are inviting a discussion.

If I write that I eat meat, I accept that there are people that find it immoral. I also accept that discussing my meat eating ways opens the door to discussions as to why my steak eating is wrong to some people.

If I cannot handle the passionate points of view about my activities, regardless of whether they agree with me or disagree, I should keep my mouth shut and not discuss my steaks.

It seems pretty simple to me.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: April Roll Call (4/9/2012 11:02:39 AM)

I also breed litters once in a while, Sweet, so I am on your side here.  I breed about every five years, make sure the parents have the appropriate health checks; breed only dogs with good structure and temperament; sell on contracts where the dog has to be returned to me if for some reason the buyer can't keep it and must be neutered or spayed if I have determined the puppy is not show quality; and research pedigrees for health and other issues.  I always have in mind the goal of improving my chosen breed.  I like to show dogs, I am a careful, responsible breeder, and I don't apologize for it.  Although one of my dogs is more or less a rescue, I like having well bred purebreds in my chosen breed.  They have characteristics and qualities that I can't find just taking a chance on a dog at the dog pound.  I also contribute to and participate in my breed club's rescue.

Not that I need to explain this, but my breeding is far from profitable.  By the time I get a championship on whichever of the parents I own, do the necessary health checks, and pay for the AI or the travel for a natural breeding, it can only be described as a labor of love.

Finally, even though I am not a mistress, I thought I would share that I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on my house move from hell.  I am moving out of the home where I lived for 15 years, way out in the country, and into my Love's house in town.  The movers come this weekend, and I anticipate being all the way moved by the 23rd.

April is always hell!
April is my tax season since I have a "taxxing" work load but it's almost over, and a very interesting development is that my full time stay-at-home husband/mantoy/best friend was offered an extremely lucrative full time job. If he takes it in May, I will be a stay-at-home-something-or-other for the first time -- ever. Alone. All day.

It will forever change our dynamic in several ways, one being that he will make more money than me, and two that he will not be at my beck and call. We will either have to "hire" someone to do the domestic stuff or I will have to do it, or something in between. It's a career move he's very passionate about so I am open to it, but I have no idea how it will impact the dynamic. I have been the breadwinner for ten years as of last June. I'm resigning some of my client work on my vanilla business because I'm desperately in need of a break and will switch to volunteer work for some mental and emotional uplift.

But when it comes to him at my beck and call, I'm not so sure how I feel about not having that. Nor how I feel about having 100% control over the money when I don't make 100% of it any more. It's odd that I will basically have 100% control of my time and decisions but 0% control of him, which to me feels like no control over anything I want.

The decision isn't final yet.

Healing from a collapsed lung.
Writing articles and working on a website I'm planning to open in the Fall.
Enjoying all the rain storms and crazy Kansas weather.
Found a new photographer so I'll be testing him out. I'm excited to see what kind of work he can do.

LaTigresse -> RE: April Roll Call (4/12/2012 4:12:55 AM)

Ah yes, speaking of photography. My give a damn, as far as the business side, has finally returned. It's a tough biz to try and make a buck in.

People think that if they have a good digital camera, they can take good photos. Reasonably good digital cameras are a dime a dozen these days. Hell, most of our phones now, take better shots that the digital SLRs of a few years ago. They think if they can do that, why should they pay anyone any kind of money to do it for them. Add in the bad mall hacks that will give you a shot for twenty bucks, and it's tough. Most people haven't a clue what the investment into equipment and software is to give them a much better outcome. And........they just don't wanna pay.

But anyhooo.......I've got another really good paying corporate gig in May. So yay! (It MIGHT pay for one lens...)[:D]

NiceButMeanGirl -> RE: April Roll Call (4/19/2012 7:33:08 PM)

Tomorrow is the big moving day for my Dom ex-b/f to move out. I am SO looking forward to getting that over with. As soon as he moves out, I can spend the weekend getting my place back to normal.

On a lighter note, I've been corresponding with a very nice submissive gentleman I met right here on CM since he sent me a very polite introductory letter earlier this week. We met today in person for the first time at a local coffee shop. We both talked a mile a minute and crammed a lot into about an hour and a half and then we parted ways making plans already for our next meeting. So far so good. :)

Excitedly awaiting my son moving hom to begin his apprenticeship. Who knew after getting him out of the house i'd be so eager to get him back a few years later lol. I'm in Raleigh & at present the sub is prepping what will be his room for paint.. patching holes & primering.. when i get back its painting & polyurethaning the floor for me.

Landscaped more this year, roses are growing as are lilys, lavender (which never died off the winter was so mild), the lil dogwood is beefing up, and i mulched between all my plantings with cocoa bean shells... my yard smells like a hershey bar.. a pms'ing womans wet dream lol. Looking forward to DomCon next month, and shooting video with some dominant ladies I rarely get to see. Guest domina's coming this summer to my Disciplinarium too... cant wait for the hustle and bustle to begin.

About 1/3 of the way to having the funds for my reconstructive surgery. Finally. Excited and hoping to do it near my birthday in june, assuming i can sock enough away and I get enough donations from subs fans & friends to put me over the top. Its not cheap, but it'l be nice to look in the mirror and not hate what the doctor did to me....

Amen LaT! As a published photographer who's been in it for more than a decade... and still shoots film a LOT... well, because I can, understanding proper exposures and all... I'm as irritated as you about how the biz has gone. Christ i had someone ask me to do a wedding (i dont do them) because of my editorial fashion style, and at my quote told me they had a quote from a craigslist photog for $250, and cant i match that... lol. Told them to jump on that steal, wished em luck, and asked them to please email me one of their most awesome blue light special wedding portraits... so i can see what i am evidently doing all wrong, lol.

::edit... damnit half a sentence disappeared...:::
