Once I eat a sub, it's gone for good.

I can eat a slave over and over.

Everything and nothing.  They mean what each person believes they mean.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

simply...

a slave gives consent, to everything.. once.. and that's it
a submissive may reserve consent for certain situations or activities... or not...

and its just not all that simple...

for every submissive, every slave, every dominant or Master -- you'll find a different set of definitions and details that make up those definitions...

Nothing, the words are, for all practical purposes, meaningless. They mean something different to each person, and so have no actual specific meaning -- and thus are meaningless words, right?

That was awesome.

OP - this subject comes up fairly frequently. Perhaps a search for an older thread will give you the results you seek.

To the OP
What many have written already is true in that the definitions vary by the person. But that really does not help you. Keep in mind what others have said but below is terminlogy you will find in a BDSM Dictionary and some websites.

slave - A term is often used synonymously with bottom or sub. Connotatively it refers to very involved D/s relationships; a person who has surrendered their personal property and freedoms to another, who has become the property or chattel of their owner(s). This term is widely used, as it has a certain self-affirming weight. The difference between submissive and slave is the degree of submission.

submissive -- In D/s relationships, a submissive is a person who retains freedoms and rights, but submits or potentially submits to another in areas wider than BDSM scenes. Within a BDSM only context submissive is synonymous with 'bottom'. Submissives can vary in how serious they take their position, training, and situation.

Two letters and something subjective.

This gets brought up at least once a month, you should do a search.

I agree with it being different to each person, although I tend to lean towards Madame4a's definition.

for me....slave..I consent once...that's it. Sub...I consent each time to what I want or don't want to do.

I'm a slave so see above.

Like others said..do a search....it's a common question around here.

A slave is someone who will do what I won't and a sub is someone who won't do what I will.

Cynical, me?

Some Dommes are fond of saying ridicules things. For example ; "It's not about what you want."

Thus the distinction.

In my opinion the difference is meaningless because, anyone can self appoint themselves as 'slave' or state they have a 'submissive personality'. Neither is deeper than the other, both are consensual, both are submissive and both are to do with BDSM. There are no rules written in stone, only individuals guidelines and our own preference.

I've been told I was a "true slave" or "not a real slave" by so many different people it's pretty much lost all meaning to me after the past few years. My idea when I initially started was:

Slave: hands full power over to their person in charge for the duration of the relationship. There is often, however, agreements on what will and won't be done before the commitment to ownership.

Submissive: will conditionally submit but reserves the right to some level of freedom or independence some of the time or on certain issues on their own terms as part of the relationship.

Using those definitions, I'm submissive to a man I submit to, a slave to a man I commit to, and neither for the general populace at large.

But after many discussions, many different viewpoints, I realize that that's a simple duality that in no way reflects the realities of the thousands of different dominants, submissive, and switches out there and their various relationships.

I'd recommend: find your definitions, advertise what you want, and if someone harangues you because they didn't like your definition? Well, they weren't worth your time.

I think submissive and slave are good places to start with for categories and then the final definition is up to the people involved. As general categories go, a submissive has more of a voice, a slave does not.

As others have stated, there are dozens (perhaps hundreds) of threads on this same question. So if you do a search, you'll be able to read through a huge number of replies.

But to me, the difference is merely a matter of degrees. A slave gives up more freedom than a sub does. He or she effectively becomes property, whereas a sub doesn't consider himself/herself property, but does subordinate their will to the will of their Dom/Domme. But a sub maintains the right to say "no", whereas a slave must do what their Master/Mistress says at all times (so long as the commands don't violate any hard limits that they've agreed upon).

But I've been around long enough to know that no two couples define the terms "sub" or "slave" the same way. So forget about titles. Just figure out what you want/enjoy, and then find a partner who wants/enjoys the same thing. That's all that really matters anyway.
