Yep, definitely a bunch of folks with more money than brains. Personally, I'd never send my kid to a school like that.....but I guess in NYC, it's the thing to do. I couldn't believe it when my son was doing fractions in the first grade.....I didn't see a fraction until maybe the 5th grade or so.....and when my son was in the 5th grade, he needed a calculator for his math that had so many buttons on it, I'd need a degree just to turn the damn thing on! But what really kills me is that pretty much all schools these days are teaching our kids how to use tools to do the work....the calculator is a perfect example. I asked my son once to show me his work on an algebra problem...he whipped out the calculator, and when I told him I wanted to see his work on paper, he looked at me like I had a second head on my shoulders. He couldn't do it! I asked him how he took a test, and he said he used the calculator. I asked him what happens when his batteries died, his response..."I have extras"....when I told him no he didn't, he then responded "I'd borrow some". When I was in school, if I'd even thought about using a calculator in math, chemistry or physics, I'd be nailed for cheating. Yep, I feel old!
