Status: offline 		I'm confused. I thought insider trading laws already applied to everyone. Obviously, as with any criminal prosecution, there is prosecutorial discretion on whether to pursue a case against someone or not - but really - the existing laws on securities regulation exempted all Congressional members from prosecution for insider trading???? If that were the case, shouldn't all of them be much, much wealthier????? Something isn't adding up here....

Joseph McCarthy used that as a shield when he smeared people by claiming they were Communists some 70 years ago. For all I know, there are laws prohibiting them from being prosecuted for using info they got on the floor.

They apply to basically everyone but members of congress.

In general Congress is protected, but obviously theres a good reason for that, so its up to congress to police themselves and for the most part they fail to do, except for when the public outrage gets so bad they have no choice, but even at that point the congressman can simply resign thus ending the investigation into his wrong doing.

Count, me as someone that seriously thinks for herself.
Fuck both parties, as far as I am concerned, they both have contributed
to ruining this country.
I vote Democratic, but more often than not, they are also in bed with corporate America.

What did they do to stop all this rampant outsourcing that has been going on for 30 years?
What did they do to stop the millions of jobs that have gone forever, bye bye?

I am for whomever/whatever is going to salvage and save this country, and help make it the great country it used to be.

Lemme see if I grasp this (because I'm sure I'm missing something key here....).

Obama signed a law that's been in force for 47 years. Can't make money in the market that you (already) know about.

Congress (people) should be governed by federal laws that exclude them from making profits (excess or otherwise)...kinda like us....which if we did, would throw us into federal prison (am I missing anything yet?)...

But it's a law...which governs American citizens.

Hmmmmm......if I recall....they're (Congress people) citizens....

And they need a special law to comport to the federal laws?

Status: offline 		Congress routinely exempts themselves, and sometimes the executive branch as well, from all sorts of laws. Insider trading was one such law. OSHA is another.

So...we should vote the generic republican thinking things would be different?? If I'm not happy with somebody in office, I always vote against that person in the primary but in the general I vote for the person who has shown in any way that they hold at least some of my believes, and it is usually a democrat (except when Kathy Dahlkemper ran for Congress) I voted against her in the primary and voted for Phil English in the general. It'll be a long time before my district gets a congresscritter like English. The current one, Kelly, hasn't even had any district meetings except in his hometown, which is over an hour away from me and I live in the largest city in his district--he ignores us up here.

I just thought it was funny..

and what has voting for the other guy gotten you? two corrupt parties that sell you out every time..

the US needs a bloody revolution (the real kind), imo.. voting isnt going to get you anything other than what you have already gotten.. but go ahead and vote since it makes ya'll feel so much better... but dont tell me its gonna make a difference..

as far as this.. ummm.. groundbreaking law Obama just signed.. I wonder how many loopholes ya could drive a truck thru it has..
