I've developed a kind of "sixth sense", lately and I foresee five or six more "I want the right to commit infanticide at will because I failed to plan properly before having sex but I'm going to call it 'Family Planning' to mislead people" threads.

Some people get something in their teeth, realize that their argument is convincing no one, try to strawman the people that are refuting them, fail at that and start a new thread to change the discussion.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

No one is advocating killing infants. Stop trying to redefine words to suit your political beliefs.

Every form of birth control has been known to fail. (The pill is about 99% effective) Both of my kids were birth control pill babies. Even though I was dirt poor when I had my first, I opted against abortion. I could never do it. But I don't want to infringe on another woman's right to not become a mother because her birth control failed.

After I had my second child, my cousin tried to talk me into being a surrogate because she can't get pregnant. I couldn't do that either. I thought a lot about it. Thought about the accusations that I was "denying" the chance to have what I had--her body denied her that chance, not me. I just couldn't see myself going through a pregnancy, hours of pain to bring a new life into the world and then just giving the baby to somebody else, even if it is my cousin, and not really my own biological child. There are women who have no difficulty at all being an incubator in such way and it is their right to do so.

But of course, non-reproductive forms of sex, including birth control. same sex, even masturbation is just as bad, and "infanticide" is a strawman for co-opting an individuals right to control their own reproductive organs - seems like some people prefer to talk out of both side of their mouth.

xssve -> RE: Anti-Family-Planners *DO* miss the good old Slave days... (4/8/2012 10:02:40 AM)

i.e., taken with all the qualification, it sounds a lot like a forced breeding scheme, which seems like something worthy of rational debate, rather than hysterical breastbeating.

Bombing babies with Depleted uranium munitions is infanticide, if anybody is Moloch here, it's you.

Happy Easter.

If her birth control failed, she is already a mother because the child exists. Just because a child dies, whether by natural or intentional means, doesn't make her less of a mother.

A woman whose child dies 2 months from conception is not less of a mother than my friend Debbie whose 8 yr old son died of leukemia. It's just a difference of time.

Are you trying to say that a woman who has an abortion at 8 weeks should consider her self a mother? If she has no children?

Perfect use is 99%

Typical use is only around 92%

People dont realize just how many different medications, or foods, or beverages interfere with the performance of the pill.

Drug interactions

quote:

Some drugs reduce the effect of the Pill and can cause breakthrough bleeding, or increased chance of pregnancy. These include drugs such as rifampicin, barbiturates, phenytoin and carbamazepine. In addition cautions are given about broad spectrum antibiotics, such as ampicillin and doxycycline, which may cause problems "by impairing the bacterial flora responsible for recycling ethinylestradiol from the large bowel" (BNF 2003).[80][81][82][83]

The traditional medicinal herb St John's Wort has also been implicated due to its upregulation of the P450 system in the liver.

Several common foods, including licorice, yam, soy and dairy products, can theoretically impair the effectiveness oral contraceptives.

Grapefruit and the pill is a huge no no.

Here's where I made the distinction:

quote:

ORIGINAL American Heritage Dictionary

plan

NOUN:

A scheme, program, or method worked out beforehand for the accomplishment of an objective: a plan of attack.
A proposed or tentative project or course of action: had no plans for the evening.
A systematic arrangement of elements or important parts; a configuration or outline: a seating plan; the plan of a story.
A drawing or diagram made to scale showing the structure or arrangement of something.
In perspective rendering, one of several imaginary planes perpendicular to the line of vision between the viewer and the object being depicted.
A program or policy stipulating a service or benefit: a pension plan

Since abortion was, is, and always will be an absolute after-the-fact occurance, lumping it in with "Family Planning" is a purposeful misnomer to make it seem more palatable to some. I absolutely agree that it is a method of "damage control" that is legal and available but in my book, if one plans abortion, in advance (Prior to pregnancy), they're hardly more than a cold-blooded murderer.

I will say it, again as I said on another thread (and received a friendly "warning" from one of my favorite LLLs): "I am for Family Planning" I fully support Family Planning.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Even if we agree on that for the sake of argument, how do you prove that in a court of law - other than by assuming guilt?

As I said before, I have provided financial planning to someone who screwed up his finances, I don't see how after-a-goof family planning is any less planning.
Or can you not use financial planning if you crash your car without insurance to get out of the financial hole you created by your goof?

Actually, how about a different tack. Until the baby is born, you are still planning whether to carry it to term, or not, and whether to raise it yourself of give it up for adoption. Until that point, you are planning! Does that work for you? So I can use family planning to avoid getting a girl pregnant, or to help her deal with the situation after she gets pregnant, as long as the planning happens before birth, when we end up creating a family.

Well, excepting that at 8 weeks from conception, it's 1/2" long, doesn't have a brain as we know it, and is just crossing over from embryo to fetus.

(open sarcasm tag) But aside from that. Yeah. exactly the same. (close sarcasm tag)

A fetus is not a child. Children have legal rights. LEGAL RIGHTS BEGIN AT BIRTH.

These days as soon as a woman becomes pregnant, her body belongs to the state.

Then the state needs to pay for what they own...or they took it without due compensation
