Allen West has mellowed with age: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_B._West#Iraq_interrogation_incident While serving in Taji, Iraq, West received information from an intelligence specialist about a reported plot to ambush him and his men.[6] The alleged plot reportedly involved Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi, a civilian Iraqi police officer.[6] West, who was not responsible for conducting interrogations in Iraq and had never conducted nor witnessed one, had his men detain Hamoodi.[6] In the process of detaining Mr. Hamoodi, soldiers testified that Hamoodi appeared to reach for his weapon and needed to be subdued.[6] Hamoodi was beaten by four soldiers from the 220th Field Artillery Battalion on the head and body.[10] West then fired his pistol near Hamoodi's head,[6] after which Hamoodi provided West with names and information, which Hamoodi later described as "meaningless information induced by fear and pain."[6] At least one of these suspects was arrested as a result, but no plans for attacks or weapons were found.[6] West said "At the time I had to base my decision on the intelligence I received. It's possible that I was wrong about Mr. Hamoodi."[6] West was charged with violating articles 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. During a hearing held as part of an Article 32 investigation in November 2003, West stated, "I know the method I used was not right, but I wanted to take care of my soldiers."[10] The charges were ultimately referred to an Article 15 proceeding rather than court-martial, at which West was fined $5,000.[6] LTC West accepted the judgment and retired with full benefits in the summer of 2004. Asked if he would act differently under similar circumstances again, West testified, "If it's about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I'd go through hell with a gasoline can."[11]

“Whatever you call people that oppose capitalism and free markets and individual economic freedom — maybe it’s ‘socialist,’ maybe it’s ’Communist’ — but that’s the point the congressman was making, and he stands by the words.” One has to wonder how he got to be so old and so ignorant at the same time. Capitalism is antithetical to free markets and individual economic freedom...and yet this idividual would have us believe that they are one in the same.

Moderator: What percentage of the American legislature do you think are card-carrying Marxists or International Socialist? West: It's a good question. I believe there's about 78 to 81 members of the Democrat Party who are members of the Communist Party. It's called the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Some members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus confirmed that they are not, in fact, members of the Communist Party. "I can confirm that Congresswoman Baldwin is not a communist," said Jerilyn Goodman, spokeswoman for Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.), a vice chair of the caucus. "Chellie is a Democrat, a farmer and a Lutheran but no, she is not a Communist," said Willy Ritch, spokesman for Rep. Isn't it interesting, DC, how the political season rhetoric of the right must be taken literally, while we all just know the Democrats are only being clever when they go orgiastic over accusations of Republicans wanting to push old people over a cliff? Surely you don't need to google, "metaphor," do you?

The "right" has been doing this since before WWII........it`s no less pathetic today than it was 60 years ago........just used more now a days by rightwing dick heads like Mary Matalin,rush,Coulter and glen beck,etc.........and now another elected republican official. Jeeze rich......what a sorry defense..... Must suck having the lunatic fringe as half the republican party........lol.

I just rewatched it and didn't detect any sign that he was speaking metaphorically. I also went to his website and didn't see any clarification saying that West was using a metaphor.

The repubs have given new meaning to the words, hypocrisy, demagoguery, chutzpah and propaganda, the repetitiveness of which is designed to make us all believe them and with many...it's working.
