Just out of curiousity. Do you consider John Kerry part of the 1%? How about Jay Rockefeller or Mark Warner? Jared Polis? Frank Lautenberg? Are they part of the 1% because I am pretty sure they have a D after their name. Or maybe Dianne Feinstein or Richard Blumenthal? Do they count?

And what about the actors and actresses? Would Rosie fall into that 1%? Pretty sure she is sitting on a pile of money and I doubt she is on the repub side. What about Barbra Streisand? She was going to leave the country if Bush was elected, does she count as one of the 1%?

Just curious. I keep hearing about the 1% but no one has ever said exactly how much money you have to have to qualify.

Yes I do, boi. I also consider Bill Gates, Opry Windbag, Steve Wozniac and several others. You do have to admit, though that a vast majority of the wealth, especially the so-called old money, is sequestered with families that vote hardcore R.

It's apparent you are out of ideas for an OP. May I suggest just kinda, oh I know, go fishing and then come back and try.

Maybe I just enjoy manipulation of the masses.
Most Dominants enjoy manipulating others. Others, like yourself and my email stalker, seem to be easily manipulated.

Becoming a millionaire isn't difficult. Setting aside $50 a month in an index fund in a Roth IRA from your 20s would do it by retirement. And before someone says "I can't afford it," maybe people dump more than that on cigarettes, lottery tickets, or junk food.

The definition has changed, having a million dollars doesn't make you a millionaire, having a million per year income does.

According to Forbes, there are 403 billionaires in the US, as of March 2010. In a country of 300 million people, that's 0.0001343333% -- just over one millionth of 1%.

This Forbes 2011 400 list gives the top 400 details :
K so the top 1% of 1%, I'm still going by a book Kevin Phillips wrote, and I read, back in the 80's. The top 1% of 1% is still a different league entirely than the 1%, which was the point.

I view the put $XX/m into a retirement fund and you will be a millionaire when you retire one of the big lies banksters and sleazy investment corps tell people to invest in their puny interest bearing "investments".. and its been told for a few decades now (in Canada also).. by the time you retire your million is worth squat, but hey, the banks did well on your money..

of course, Roths may be good if you have the right (real/true) investment in it.. just not the shite banks & investment corps push..

According to the annual World Wealth Report from Merill Lynch and Capgemini, the U.S. had 3.1 million millionaires in 2010, up from 2.86 million in 2009. The latest figure tops the pre-crisis peak of three million.

Merrill and Capgemini define millionaires as individuals with $1 million or more in investible assets, not including primary home, collectibles, consumables and consumer durables.

so basically the SEC definition of an "accredited investor".. which imo is not that much..

You are entitled to retire with as little as you wish.

Nor need you invest in banks or sleazy investment corps.

You are allowed to use your head.

Once again, this was making a point about the OP, not a test to see how anal retentive you are.

I picked up now and again that you had some sort of issue so if you do just come out and say it.

the Prophet Amos, whom God appointed to tell the Israelites to stop letting the wealthiest few prosper at the hands of the poorest. This was not a popular message as it came at a time when Israel was doing fairly well. Amos also told them to prepare themselves for judgement, especially from a foreign nation.

Amos 9:13-15

"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills,
and I will bring my people Israel back from exile.

"They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine;
they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them," says the LORD your God."

I get the the planter overtaking the treader of grapes bit [the latter being the seller presumably] arguably applying to the 1% but the quoted passage seems to suggest the Jews may be in exile, doing badly etc. It sounds like a different message unless another verse clarifies it but I may be missing something... [which is very possible.]

that's what i thought too - it's a passage describing the return of jews to judah

Yep.....if one calls hoping for Israel`s total distruction........in hopes that it brings on "the 2nd coming" if Jesus.....staunch support.

That's exactly right. And between them and the equally crazy "Eretz Israel" Jews who are delighted to accept their money because they happen to believe that the outcome will not be what the Christians think, we've got a regular fucking rabble of End Times zealots trying to drive us toward WWIII.

Once again, when you are presented with evidence that point is incorrect, you get pissy.

Softbonds, didn't you get the memo: nothing the Muslims ever do warrants criticism...

um, MM, either you mean the top millionth, or the top 1/10,000th of the 1%. The top 1 millionth of 1% in this nation are Bill Gates, Balfor, and Buffett. (1% of 1/1,000,000 is 1/100,000,000. Multiply that by 300,000,000 and you get 3)
