Status: offline 		We saw a bear Friday night. Of all the bears I've seen around here, this was the biggest. Must have been about 600 pounds.

In addition, the bald eagles are doing well. I know the adolescents don't develop the white head for about five years. I'm guessing they stay near their parents during this time. Because we saw about five of them overhead. A couple with the white, and the others not.

When the first mating pair showed up about six years ago, nobody knew if they would take. They're doing great. Any other cool wildlife spotting?

Status: offline 		Deer and wild turkeys while I was showing property in the mountains last weekend. I havent seen a bear in a year or so.

Status: offline 		I've not heard of any bear or cougar sightings in awhile, but it happens around here.

Bald eagles used to only be an annual sighting along the Mississippi but thanks to factory farming and less pesticides, they are quite common, even in large groups, during the winter and even now, I see them on occasion. It's apparent we have nesting pairs around.

Otherwise, I see all sorts of wild life on a very regular basis. Deer, coyotes, raccoon, skunks, various rodents, all sorts of birds from itty bitty hummingbirds to great horned owls and turkey buzzards. The occasional fox, both red and gray. Saved a garter snake from the mighty terror, Queen Sophie, yesterday. Bull snakes and the big ass rat snake are common visitors in our yard. Occasionally the gorgeous little green racers. Frogs and toads also. That's all I can think of at the moment, aside from spiders and various bugs.

There is a badger den in the neighbour's field but I've not seen it myself.

Status: offline 		All sorts. Occasional bear. Deer and turkeys everywhere. Raccoons, possums, woodchucks. Heron, geese, ducks. Beavers. Occasional golden eagle, occasional bald eagle. Lots of red-tailed hawks. All manner of "vermin." Rabbits and squirrels and a million birds live among my trees.

Saw a 12" long fawn one morning. And four coyote pups. Rescued a gosling from fishing line once.

Status: offline 		Turkeys always remind me of dinosaurs for some reason. They've been very talkative in my neighbourhood lately.

Status: offline 		We have yet to see a bear since we moved up here.  Just a couple of weeks ago, we had our first bald eagle sighting.  I was somewhat surprised how close it was.  We get to see the occasional moose.  The geese have started coming back.  I'm waiting to see if a certain pair of swans will come back to the home they had last year.

There were a few snaps of OMG if F'ing COLD.  I now define real cold as when a person steps outside and feels the inside of their nose freeze.

That's my defining factor also. Fortunately this winter was crazy weird mild. None of those moments.

Status: offline 		If you google 'Dekorah Bald Eagles' you can wtch an eagles nest 80 ft up. It is monitered 24/7. Last year there were 3 young eagles. This year I see only 2.

We basically had no winter here. I call it REALLY effing cold if my breath freezes in my beard. Yeah, I know I'm supposedly in the south but up in the mountains, it happens.

Status: offline 		i live adjacent to an open wildlife area, and am treated to huge coyote concerts every night. there must be a pack of about 20 of them. i love it, except when i'm worried my dog is out of the protected yard.

Status: offline 		What I remember very clearly about how cold it gets up there, is how my body tighten up when exposed to that for so long. It feels like every muscle in your body is tense. You couldnt relax them even if you tried. Its exhausting.

Coyote packs are typically 6 animals. Much smaller than wolf packs.

They only sound like more--and yes, they do a good job of that.

oh thanks. i believe it could be 6 or so, but it's hard to imagine that. sometimes i hear what appears to be them triangulating and surrounding their prey. other times it sounds like a big fun party. other times just weird.

it's a big area with a reservoir, so there must be more than one pack. maybe they communicate like tribes. i'm not knowledgeable on the subject.

Status: offline 		We have several packs that roam around our little part of heaven. The crew that lives nearest has grown over the last few years and is around 5-7 adults. They den just to the southwest of my house along a creek. I love when the pups start trying to sound like big shots and I can hear them yipping away.

My dogs are not allowed to roam outside of the yard and at night, not even free reign of the yard. The coyotes would kill them in a heartbeat, given the chance.

yes, and they're smart, they lure them away into the pack.

i used to take night walks and they would stalk us sometimes. but luckily, just the light of my flashlight was enough to scare them off. one time two of them came right up to my two large dogs and introduced themselves. i was sitting on a big truck-sized boulder just above them. i was amazed that they exchanged butt smells, and i got the sense they wanted to challenge my two dogs to run off and play. but once they noticed me right above them, they backed off, and then gave up. good thing i had excellent recall on my dogs, or they would have run off with them and prob been dinner.

Status: offline 		Sigh.  I am going to miss living in the woods.  I used to see all kinds of wildlife, and I loved that.  One time, when I was leaving very early in the morning, I saw a lynx.  I have also seen bear, cougars, and deer are a daily sighting.
My house is surrounded by beaver dams, but oddly enough, I  never saw a damn beaver.

Status: offline 		I went on an ATV ride a week ago, about 20 miles west of town.  Saw a herd of wild horses and three deer.  Other people on the ride say they also saw big horn sheep and pronghorns.  There is an abundance of wildlife within a short distance of here.  Coyotes, mountain lions, elk, eagles, a few bear, and every few years even the occasional moose will stray into downtown Boise, which is about 20 miles east.  And there is (are?) even sturgeon in the Snake River which is only about 10 miles to the nearest point from here...I guess that qualifies as wildlife.

Status: offline 		Living out in the sticks in the Delta of Arkansas,I see the usual stuff,deers,bears,coyotes,a wolf once in a while,etc. But we now have big cats back on our area,a pair of black panthers and at least 2 different cougars.I was deer hunting in my blind last year ,I was filming 3 jake[young males] turkeys that had come up and were inspecting my deer decoy when I noticed movement on the far end of the field,as did the turkeys.What was down there was a cougar crossing the field and stopped to check out the turkeys.Funny thing is,the state game officers say we do not have big cats here...even after I showned one the video clip.
