There's not much I could add to what Kirata says other than to state that these sleazy boycotts, though legal, are a desperate attempt to to silence those who they, the left, can't compete with in any other way within the arena of ideas and political philosophy. The boycotters should keep in mind that boycotting is a double edge sword.

I'm sorry but what are the new ideas of the repubklican party or for that matter what are rushes ideas? I thought this was over him calling young woman whores and sluts for half a week . Point taken. Do you feel the same way about One Million Moms' effort to persuade JC Penney to drop Ellen Degeneres as its spokesperson and the Catholic League's boycott of Jon Stewart?

that does seem to be one of the favorite excuses.

Owner59 -> RE: Tell Angie's List: drop your support of Rush Limbaugh (4/24/2012 5:34:35 PM)

What the rightists are upset about isn`t repression of "free speech" but rather free choice.......exercised.......it`s freedom itself that`s their problem.

I`ve got no problem with the right doing boycotts.......usually what they are protesting against....like freedom of religion(against Muslims, gay rights, etc.)makes them look like bigoted bullies....let them knock themselves out.

Fundies were the worst offenders doing boycotts against anything they thought promoted "Hollywood`s gay agenda".Been going on for 20 - 30 years.

Not all boycotts are organized......the reaction to rush was as organic and spontaneous as they come.People all of a sudden saying no to unforgivable/unexplainable comments by rush is freedom of choice.

rush`s advertisers exercised their freedom of speech and to say one word.....no.

And this grotesquely dishonest use of the "two wrongs don`t make a right" concept, lol, is coming off a bit cheeky after years of the right using/abusing the tactic, owning the tactic.

But now that the right is becoming victim to boycotts?........and losing?!? .......I guess it`s now fashionable to be against them.......suddenly.............Which jives perfectly with the republican version of intellectual honesty.[:D]

If it makes you feel better to say that then you're free to blabber your nonsense. Maybe you could make 40 million or so per year doing it.

It`s a bit of an over exaggeration(for affect) but it`s damm close to the truth.

The boycotts are a true grass roots effort. No corporate sponsorship... just private citizens having their voices heard.

Absolutely nothing any other group can not engage in themselves... and have.

Some ABC affiliates initially canceled ''Politically Incorrect'' and later put it back on the air, although not the station in Washington, where the White House press secretary, Ari Fleischer, warned on Wednesday that ''people have to watch what they say and watch what they do.'' (The White House later dropped the first half of that warning.)

Anyone recall this?

Time to Boycott “Old Navy” stores…..
By We The People on June 8th, 2011 at 12:23 pm
Posted In: Casual Conversation
“A nationally prominent retail store has announced it will sell “gay pride” T-shirts in support of presidentially proclaimed ”Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.”
Old Navy will sell rainbow-styled T-shirts as part of the its “Love Proudly: Pride 2011″ campaign. The shirts reportedly went on sale June 1 and will be available at select stores throughout the country. Old Navy announced it will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the “It Gets Better Project,” a pro-LGBT campaign.
Gary Cass of DefendChristians.org says Old Navy is promoting a lifestyle that is in “complete rebellion against God.”

Boycotts and petitions go on all the time, for various reasons by various groups.

Yes but no one has gone after any of the libs in the main stream media yet or called up the advertisers who pulled out of Rush's show to tell them they wouldn't buy their products for doing that. This is what I mean by a double edge sword.

Just so I am clear, are you referring to the equivalent of Limbaugh (in relationship to the bolded part above) ?

I tend not to follow this kind of nonsense, so I had to read the links. Having now done so...

Yes, I feel that same about the Catholic League threatening the revenues of Jon Stewart's advertisers.

With regard to the One Million Moms, their website says:
The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there... JC Penney has made a poor decision and must correct their mistake fast to retain loyal customers.

    TAKE ACTION

Make a personal phone call to JC Penney's customer service department... Ask JC Penney to replace Ellen Degeneres as their new spokesperson immediately and remain neutral in the culture war.
The first part is only their wet-dream, and the recommendation does not threaten a boycott. A comparable recommendation in the current matter would be to make a personal phone call to the Rush Limbaugh show and register your displeasure with his screener.

I'm also not clear that the case presents a comparable freedom of speech issue. But I do think something else is at stake. There is no fundamental moral difference between firing someone yourself, because they're not heterosexual, and being an active and intentional accessory to their firing. I hope J.C. Penny didn't cave in?

There is no equivalent to Limbaugh so I can't answer that. [8D]

Interesting.. no?

What's interesting is how much time some people seem to have on their hands and their penchanct for using it to invent convoluted theories of how they are being victimized by various and sundry evil oppressors, all of whom share the singular identifying trait of holding an opinion at variance with their own.

I'm not really referring to anyone in particular. It could be some one from one of the major networks or some one like Chris Mathews from PMSNBC. I just can't think of any one equivalent to Rush. Just an example to say that the right could start boycotting those in the liberal media who they think might be offensive to them. Double edge sword payback sort of thing.
