Dear XXXX,

Thanks very much for writing in to let us know your thoughts about Rush Limbaugh.

Our advertising strategy is to use as many venues as possible to share information about the service we provide at Angie’s List. We use this wide array of venues not to express support for any specific person, outlet or philosophy but to reach as many consumers from as many points of view as possible.

We place ads on all the major networks and cable outlets, as well as radio and newspapers, reaching outlets that cover the gamut of conservative to moderate to progressive to liberal. On any given day, we’ll hear negative reaction to our choices from each part of that spectrum, most of them protesting that we do not support their particular issue or that we do support another.

Just as we trust members to read reports and make their own decisions about which service companies to hire, we trust them to make their own choices about which outlets to watch, listen to and read. We don’t believe it’s our job to tell them which of those venues to support or monitor. That said, we have ongoing conversations about where to place our ad dollars, and we’ll certainly add your comments to that discussion.

Thanks, again, for reaching out, XXXX. I hope you can appreciate our strategy of inclusiveness.

Sincerely,
Jordan

Apparently this is the response from Angie's list regarding their resuming advertising on the Limbaugh show.

And, if you can believe the DailyKos, this may be the reason why....

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/03/12/1073707/-Angie-s-List-My-Pre-Fluke-Complaint-and-my-Post-Fluke-Discovery

Towards the end there is this....

The basis of my complaint against Angie’s List and other Limbaugh sponsors is that the cost of advertising on Limbaugh’s’ show, which basically functions as a 3-hour-a-day Super PAC ad, is a tax-deductible expense, while a pure political corporate contribution to a Super PAC is not.

Yes, Rush, you are forcing me to have my taxes subsidize your political propaganda, which, believe me, is far more repugnant than your fevered fantasies of a college student’s sex life. The people running Angie’s List, not Ms Fluke’s parents, are the one who should be ashamed.

Interesting.. no?

Interesting.. no?

What's interesting is how much time some people seem to have on their hands and their penchanct for using it to invent convoluted theories of how they are being victimized by various and sundry evil oppressors, all of whom share the singular identifying trait of holding an opinion at variance with their own.

I think I may have to print this out and frame it. Good in so many situations.

Yeah, why do those rotten Republicans spend so much time doing that?

kalikshama -> Tell Angie's List: drop your support of Rush Limbaugh (4/24/2012 4:35:06 AM)

Every American enjoys the right to free speech, but that doesn't mean that advertisers who are accountable to their customers should pay people like Rush Limbaugh who make such appallingly hateful and sexist comments.

Angie's List needs to hear from us loud and clear -- if you advertise on Rush Limbaugh, you are supporting his reprehensible attacks on women. And other advertisers thinking about resuming their support of this program need to know that we won't let them quietly begin supporting such hateful and sexist rhetoric.

Tell Angie's List: Immediately and permanently end your support of Rush Limbaugh.

Well, if you want one side to look good, you vilify the other side. And since angies list isn't playing their game, they want to hound them until they buckle down and follow that line.

This. This. This!

I can't agree more, Kirata.

Suppose, just purely hypothetically, the case of a broadcaster who is on the air three hours a day, five days a week, and who spends the overwhelmingly vast majority of that time speaking about things other than his views on the women's contraception issue. Explain to me why he should be driven off the air so he can no longer say anything about anything?

Do those other things often include racist and bigoted comments against anyone not a rich white man? Does he purport to tell his listeners the truth but in actuality routinely lies and make up stuff with no basis in facts?

Rush does all of that when not attacking women's right to control their own bodies. It is long past time that his advertisers had to make a choice between his listeners and sane reasonable decent people.

kalikshama -> RE: Tell Angie's List: drop your support of Rush Limbaugh (4/24/2012 7:07:52 AM)

His attack on Sandra Fluke is new; his misogyny is not.

Personally, I hope the majority of his advertisers see it as a choice between supporting Free Speech or kissing the collective ass of a bunch of vocal demogogues who want to throw it under the bus.

Moonhead -> RE: Tell Angie's List: drop your support of Rush Limbaugh (4/24/2012 7:50:31 AM)

If it's that simple a case, I hope that everybody who's been bitching about the nasty liberal hive mind picking on poor Rush and his advertisers was showing an equal degree of support for (say) Nathalie Gaines' right to Free Speech over that diss of the chimp back in '03.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Tell Angie's List: drop your support of Rush Limbaugh (4/24/2012 8:03:58 AM)

And if I find what he says hateful, even just a little bit, why shouldn't I let his sponsors know? No one is saying a law should be passed banning Rush Limbaugh. Freedom of speech simply means the government can't ban unpopular speech. I have every right, however, to tell his sponsors that as long as they give that fat junkie a dime, I won't be buying their products or services. They are advertising o his show because they think it will increase their profits, not to make a political statement. If he gets driven off the air because enough people contact his sponsors, and they decide it is not profitable to advertise with him, then that just goes to show you how well the market system works. Business is business, after all. In the end, he is still free to spout his garbage,it just may not be so profitable for him.

This is your second attempt at dragging the thread down into the gutter of partisan crap. Nobody has said anything about liberals or conservatives anywhere in this thread, except you. Nobody has posted any snark about Democrats or Republicans, except you.

Can you please give it a fucking break?

K.

Moonhead -> RE: Tell Angie's List: drop your support of Rush Limbaugh (4/24/2012 8:09:27 AM)

Why is pointing out that the people who are keen to support Rush's freedom of speech weren't extending any such courtesy to Nathalie Gaines partisan?
People who are in favour of free speech should support both.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Tell Angie's List: drop your support of Rush Limbaugh (4/24/2012 8:17:41 AM)

I don't think "freedom of speech" means what you think it does.
As for his advertisers, my guess is if it is a choice between making a political statement and making a buck, well, that isn't much of a choice, is it? But your idealism is kinda cute, really.

It's bad because it points out the RW's rampant hypocrisy.

As are your petty online petitions...

Do you really think Angie's list gives a shit about what progressives think? Especially of those they know who'll never pay the subscription price to use the service?
