Jeff Greenfield says he plans to.

The implications of that will be huge, more than the GOP realizes. Mormons have traditionally been intelligent, moderate, pragmatic Republicans, and have a disproportionate weight in the Western swing states. If Huntsman leaves and takes anyone with him, the GOP will hurt.

Might not Romney as the nominee persuade at least some of the Mormons to stick around, Steve?

I liked Huntsman. I hoped to see him do much better in the primary, but my opinion is that he blew it, and lacks the fire in the belly to stand up and fight, much less engage in the sort of brutal streetfight this election is going to be.

I agree Rich. I liked what I saw in him, initially. But it was like watching a ghost... barely there.. hard to remember actually seeing.

Dunno. IMO it depends on whether the evangelicals accept them.

I agree. In addition, I think his quiet style is better suited for the Dems than the GOP. Although he's been talking more third party in the interview.

You don't win elections without their support. If the Republican party wants to become irrelevant, all they have to do is keep moving farther to the Right and trying to shove their religious dogma down everyone's throat.

If the GOP's goal is to have a more consistent and clear ideology, you are correct. If the goal is to win national elections, you're not.

Truth of the matter is, the religious right makes up a very minor part in conservative values. While the ultra religious may be conservative, not all conservatives are religious. It's time for the "moderates" to take a stand, either their for government handouts, bailouts, and the nanny state, or their for self reliance, pulling themselves by the bootstraps, and taking care of themselves.

States have been sued before.......What black panthers?They don`t exist accept for on foxnoose......and what have the cons done about gitmo besides nothing after creating the mess?

I`m not sure where the whacked out notion came from that being more and more extreme is better for the GOP but I couldn`t be more thrilled.

I consider myself a Goldwater conservative. Why am I registered Independent instead of Republican?

Look who OWNS the damn party. It is the religious Right and Ron Reagan sold it to them. They don't care about fiscal conservatism. All they care about is forcing their religious, anti-science dogma down everyone's throat. Remember what Goldwater said about them back in the 60's.
The Church found out centuries ago that if you keep the majority of the people poor and ignorant, they're easier to control. That's exactly where we're headed.

As opposed to unemployed and on the government dole? I'm afraid I was born after the Goldwater era, and frankly from my vantage point, I just don't see the religious influence in the current GOP policies... Then again, I don't see the fiscal conservatism either, which is why I'd love to see ALL incumbents replaced. Boehner and McConnell are neither good leadership, or conservative.

Ya, they've edited out Thomas Jefferson who was a proponent of the separation between Church and State.

By a 9-5 vote along party line, the conservative majority on the board adopted a set of social studies curriculum standards for Texas students that by any objective standard constitute educational malpractice.

How else would one explain the decision to remove references to Thomas Jefferson from the state's history books? It's true that Jefferson is not a conservative hero, since he coined the term "separation between church and state." But to have John Calvin and Sir William Blackstone replace our nation's third president in discussions about the ideas on which this country was founded - at least in Texas classrooms - is absurd.
