About a year ago, I posted an ad on Craigslist for a local submissive (Silicon Valley) and (someone) responded (as a woman) asking if I'd pay 'her' for a play session.

Within a few hours of responding in the affirmative, my google email account was suspended for 'violation of terms', forcing an identifying phone number to continue. This was 'not' the normal request they ask for a phone number - this one could not be skipped. In essence, it closed down the account.

Contacting Google, I was told that there was a request (presumably from law enforcement) for them to hand over data they had on the account and that the account was locked unless/until I provided telephone contact information, which I didn't.

So, that gmail account is dead - but what I ask is whether or not others have had similar experiences, either here or elsewhere, where the cops actively troll the personals.

that's freakin scary, and only by the grace of gawd, i would be walking in your shoes. i'm surprised they didn't take it further, and knock on your door. i guess this was more of a fascist tactic to scare you with the least amount of effort.

...of course it is a part of the ongoing fascism coming to America.

They hoped the public wasn't watching and the sad thing is, even though we are...it will still pass, Obama's veto threat will be short-lived just as the last def. auth. bill and there you have it.

I had something like this happen. I gave them the ex's cell number. As far as I know they never called it. They never closed the account either.

Yes, I think they are. I've had a number of cmails from total strangers asking me questions that I took to be fishing.

In my profile I say "age isn't an issue" which could be construed that I am looking for minors (I guess).

It's happened enough I added a disclaimer that I am looking for 18 and older.

Although I applaud (just about) any effort from law enforcement to jail pedophiles, I found it creepy.

Well, you were certainly guilty of solicating a prostitute, so why be surprised?

I have never received those kinds of cmails here, but I can see some people who list themselves as pros being targeted to determine the legality of their behavior.

I've never solicited for sex for money on craigslist or here so that probably makes a difference.

Well, but honestly, aren't their bigger problems than what 2 consulting adults do with each other and if there is money involved? What a waste of man power and tax money...

I've seen sting ops, yeah.

I intentionally take the bait as often as possible.

See, around where I live, entrapment is illegal, and so it simply wastes their time, making it a way to hit an unethical practice right where it hurts (the wallet). I dislike entrapment intensely, for numerous reasons. One of which being that entrapment doesn't make any allowances for intent, since they don't ask up front, and anything you say afterwards can be construed as invented. As there's no actual crime prior to the entrapment, there's nothing to draw on, either. Course, if I really wanted to do something that's illegal in my own jurisdiction, I would use Tor and Hushmail instead.

For that matter, everyone should have Tor and a suitable online remailer, especially if they're not doing anything illegal.

Might get cops back to doing real work, when they can't waste time on this crap.

IWYW,
- Aswad.

I agree. But, prostitution/soliciting is illegal in most of the US and there's been some high profile cases where the prostitute turned out to be underage.

The OP admitted to solicitation, he admitted to something illegal.

Craigslist closed down their "Adult Services" section on the website. If you are looking for Profession Dommes or Professional submissives, you might want to look elsewhere this is happening here on like it did on Craigslist then it can happen anywhere online.

The thing is in most of Europe (basically every European country I am aware of) prostitution is legal, so that frees enormous man power to go after the cases where underaged are involved or the women are forced to prostitute themselves, they don't need to hide from the police and actually will call the police in case they are roughed up, raped, threatened by pimps... It cut down on a lot of the criminality surrounding prostitution.

There is a wonderful organization who helps underage girls who are kidnapped and forced in prostitution in NYC called GEMS:
http://www.gems-girls.org/about. For those interested in more information and stats on the issue.

I also believe law enforcement should perv this site.

Interesting! I occasionally get msgs soliciting financial domination, ew, but this year I've received several e-mails that absolutely sounded like cops.
More power to 'em in getting the johns and pros off the site, and hopefully some will come back on their off-hours. Mmmm, subbie cops . . . my favourite flavour!

Lucky me!

Nope, never had that problem, ever anywhere. Then again I'm not going to pay someone to dominate me or to have sex with them or to play or anything else. I'm only here to waste time while reading funny stuff to keep me entertained.

So my suggestion? Stop offering money to everyone who asks.

I absolutely agree. I think legalizing it takes the power away from the criminal element and would ensure that the health aspect is also taken care of.

I have a google and craigslist account. I don't remember if I added a phone number to the google account, but craigslist called my cell phone within seconds of me punching in the numbers.

At least for craigslist, you can't get the account without adding a real phone number that you yourself can answer (in order to punch back in the verification code they send you).

This map shows that prostitution is legal in most of the non-communist non-theocratic world.
http://chartsbin.com/view/snb

This is the map:

This one is has slightly more granularity (it shows Nevada but it's only certain parts of Nevada with fewer than so many people who vote for it).

Basically, almost the entire free world allows prostitution as a legal profession. It's just here in the center of Puritanical beliefs, that it's somehow allowed to be illegal.

Personally, I don't pay for play sessions, so I ignore or decline anyone who asks for money. Therefore, this isn't an issue for me. However, it's well known police do stuff like this. My feeling is if you are willing to pay for a session it's pretty easy to find a pro so I don't know why you'd be wasting your time trolling personal ads.

If the OP merely said yes to pay money to video tape her having sex with him, California case law would have allowed it!
