In my own experience, its to warm her up. The cane is a very intense kind of pain. It easily leaves large angry whelts and can draw blood just as easily. It is not something you start out with, and it is very important to built a sub up to that kind of pain.

As a side note... we use unpeeled rattan. I'm curious what others use.

The taping is probably done for the same reason that a whip is swished in the air a few times before the actual, flesh connecting, stroke... psychological intimidation.

That aside, you've hit upon another issue that is one of my pet peeves... fake BDSM. I'm all for freedom of expression, etc, etc, but watching someone "scream" from a "whipping" that wouldn't budge a house fly is an insult to my intelligence.

If they are doing that much tapping between read hits then I would guess they are doing it to waste time and save their model's ass. A certain amount of tapping is expected as the person getting caned never knows when the real hit will come. Makes for a good mind trip. However, these are porn movies you are watching. They are not based on real life. The models may or may not be into pain. Many are doing it for the money and if it hurts too much they'll walk out or at least refuse to be hired again for any similar gigs.

Anyway, they don't have to do more real pain stuff. You keep watching, and I would assume keep paying.

This post from a gentleman who topped in a Mood Pictures video might be of interest. He says that most of the models are vanilla girls who do it for the money: designer clothes, nice vacations. I've seen videos where the screams look faked, but faking marks would be silly. There are enough people who will take a beating for the money that extensive makeup would be a waste of time.

To answer the OP's question:

Part of the tapping is for aim. I'm ok with a cane, but not great, and a few taps makes it easier for me to make sure that a cane hits where I want it. If he's tapping for three minutes between strokes, I'd guess that it's a staging thing. He needs to give the models a moment to process the pain of a hard stroke, to keep them from safewording out, but he doesn't want to obviously be waiting. Tapping builds anticipation for the viewer and keeps the scene alive while giving the model a chance to breathe.

Yep, I'm a tap type, too. I like the bottom not necessarily knowing when the real strike is coming. It's a great build up for them and I like choosing the precise moment by their body language to go for the sweet shot.

I won't say anything about the clips you were watching in particular, OP. I did, however, want to assure you that during a real caning, those red marks are real.

Those sites have been around for years, nothing new. And before you comment on that set of pay sites, buy some of the vids so you have a better idea of what you are looking at, the trailers aren't a good indicator.
